I’d look at the sauer 100 in 243. Better ergos and price (currently) than a tikka. Has a 1:10 twist which isn’t ideal for hand loading but for a 95 sst or 95 ballistic tip it would be good.

I want to try a Sauer 100 but I am waiting for them to start threading he barrels like Ruger and Tikka are.
That is a $150 job. As long as the base rifle price is low enough, then the fact that it is factory threaded is just a nice thing.

I have had a couple of barrels threaded and they turned out ok, but I like the factory to do it.
At current prices, adding in the $150 (plus the cost of my time) makes a threaded Tikka the more cost effective option. But, that's just me.
I have a Howa Mini 6 arc. I love it, shoots great. I need to upgrade the stock, though.A friend of the family has a New Mexico Resident elk tag. I knew she had the tag, but did not realize her situation surrounding the tag until today. The short version of the story without getting into it is that she needs a rifle, a bolt rifle. This will likely be the only rifle she ever buys.
The first thing that comes to mind is a 6ARC and a case of 108 ELDM ammo. The 6mm is legal everywhere and is a light recoiling practice round. What bolt rifles are chambered in 6 ARC. Scope choice is easy.
The second rifle that comes to mind is a tikka t3x in 6.5 creed.
Might be the Sig stock as different stocks transmit the recoil different. The two Tikkas in 6.5CM we have shoot very nicely and they are unsuppressed and unbraked non-threaded versions with 24" Stainless steel lite barrel. I also have a Howa 1500 6.5CM Carbon Stalker with the 22" light profile steel barrel that I find very comfortable to shoot. Is it 223 comfortable, no but I can easily wack steel at 500 to 1K and watch bullet splash on or off target for adjustments. A short barrel on 6.5CM with a stock that might not fit the best isn't one that would be the most fun to shoot.Anyone else think the 6.5 Creed has some bad recoil? I remember seeing a thread on here of a handful of guys saying this.
My Sig Cross is painful to shoot a lot.
I see the 243 being recommended. That'd be my buy.
I'd be curious to how a 6.5 creed tikka in a Rokstok would be. But that Sig is getting a 22 Creed pipe since my kids won't even shoot it because of the recoil.
I’m my experience they aren’t fun to shoot in general (sig cross). I owned one in 6.5!-!: my buddy still owns it. Rokstok is pleasant to shoot - especially 6.5 and below.Anyone else think the 6.5 Creed has some bad recoil? I remember seeing a thread on here of a handful of guys saying this.

What? 6arc & 243 use the same bullets. Just get a 1:9 or 1:8 twist and you can shoot the 100gr soft point.Only rifle? Does not have reloading equipment? 6.5 creedmoor hands down. Don't get to fancy with the one rifle. 6.5 creedmoor ideally something threaded or that you plan on threading for a brake if she is recoil sensitive. 6 arc will likely last but creedmoor is so well established i wouldn't place bets. I would not go 243 win, the bullet options are not great for elk. Id definitely go 6 arc over 243 win. If you go 243 plan to handload and that would require a fast twist.
Typical factory 243 ammo is meant for the 1:10 twist. If you get 243 with 103 or 108 its typically gping to cost you $60 a box. If you reload its no big deal based on the post i doubt thos person reloads as this will be their only gun. A 100 grain soft point is a terrible bullet...What? 6arc & 243 use the same bullets. Hmm, I've killed a lot of game with a 100 grain Remington CoreLokt and Hornady Interlock with a 243 and watch just as many die. Sub 300 yards is no issue for a 100 grain soft point.Typical factory 243 ammo is meant for the 1:10 twist. If you get 243 with 103 or 108 its typically gping to cost you $60 a box.
