6 ARC or 6.5 Creed

She is not going to be a long range shooter, so equipment and gear, including cartridge choice, that works close is good.

Since the 6X SWFA is sold out, how about a second choice on optics.

The trijicon huron 3-9x40 standard reticle is on sale at eurooptic right now. This seems like a decent option with a nice clean uber simple reticle.

Wife's 16" 6 ARC wears a 3-9x40 Huron and the reticle lines up perfectly at 100, 200, 300 yards at average altitude/temps. Wife has a self imposed 300 yard limit for the time being.

To the OP, I would take a look at a Savage, Compact model, 20" barrel already threaded, already cerakoted, in 243 Win with 100gr Nosler Partitions, 90gr Accubond, or 90gr E-Tip and see what it likes. The reason for 243 Win = available commercial off the shelf ammo availability.

They have them in normal and compact models, adjustable stocks.

I’d look at the sauer 100 in 243. Better ergos and price (currently) than a tikka. Has a 1:10 twist which isn’t ideal for hand loading but for a 95 sst or 95 ballistic tip it would be good.

I want to try a Sauer 100 but I am waiting for them to start threading their barrels like Ruger and Tikka are.

That is a $150 job. As long as the base rifle price is low enough, then the fact that it is factory threaded is just a nice thing.

My wife has been shooting my 6arc in howa mini since I got it. She’s killed a pile of prairie dogs and a mule deer with it. It currently has my NX8 2.5-20 FFP on it since it was suppose to be my rifle. She loves it. I have a Hyperion on the end of it, it’s quiet enough I can shoot prairie dogs in my pastures with my horses standing next to me with no issues.

I have had a couple of barrels threaded and they turned out ok, but I like the factory to do it.

At current prices, adding in the $150 (plus the cost of my time) makes a threaded Tikka the more cost effective option. But, that's just me.

I’m having a couple of barrels cut by Silencer Central. The turnaround time seems far more reasonable than my local gunsmith. And since it’s a two-hour round trip to my closest good gunsmith, having the ability to ship the barreled actions off and get them back about three weeks later seems really reasonable. I will inspect the job when they get back and compare with the other thread jobs.

Ill be taking my Howa carbon build 6 arc into the backcountry for mule deer and probably elk this year. 105 Berger Hybrids at 2740 ish FPS....Wont be shooting over 550-600 yards but also won't feel undergunned...

A friend of the family has a New Mexico Resident elk tag. I knew she had the tag, but did not realize her situation surrounding the tag until today. The short version of the story without getting into it is that she needs a rifle, a bolt rifle. This will likely be the only rifle she ever buys.

The first thing that comes to mind is a 6ARC and a case of 108 ELDM ammo. The 6mm is legal everywhere and is a light recoiling practice round. What bolt rifles are chambered in 6 ARC. Scope choice is easy.

The second rifle that comes to mind is a tikka t3x in 6.5 creed.

I have a Howa Mini 6 arc. I love it, shoots great. I need to upgrade the stock, though.

The saur 100 in 243 with the huron is something I've been considering adding to my collection. If a potential 300 yard shot on any animal was coming soon I wouldnt wait anymore.
