Just imagine what all the non-hunting wives in Alaska have to put up with when their husbands can get sheep, moose, bou, grizz, brown bear, etc tags for free... annually :)

You put up with Ryan's efforts on Rokslide which probably requires more time than any of the rest of us get to devote towards hunting so I'd say you have more fortitude than you give yourself credit.

I stand by my previous comment. You obviously 'get' marriage and are happily married. I do get excited and am THRILLED for Ryan when all his hard work pays off, but I believe I speak for all wive's when I say hunting is still a hobby and both people in the marriage are important and should be valued! Marriage is a compromise, and that is why Ryan will be going to See 'Fifty Shades of Grey' on the 15th!

I can't wait for bear season, as I have come to know and love many Roksliders as family, and hope they join me in my up and coming hunting adventures!!

Ugh my wife has roped me into going to that movie as well, but she puts up with my ventures so small price. As far as your upcoming bear, I certainly hope you'll bring us along for your journey as well.

Luke, that is true! I think after elk season with you guys, Ryan was thinking 'OMG' this is gonna cost me a FORTUNE. What was I thinking?!' Especially after I shot your guys' Kimber gun. That is a NICE gun!

The best part is after 17 years of being married she started hunting last year! Which I must say really surprised me. We now have several hunts planned this year. Didn't see that coming....Women are truly an enigma!

Well, there are several reasons for this. Until about 4 years ago when Rokslide was created, I didn't even really realize how many women actually hunted. I thought the ones that did were just doing it for attention or to impress a guy, or even meet a guy (that theory still holds true for some of them;). I didn't personally know any that hunted and certainly in Ryan's group of hunting friends, none of their wives hunted. Secondly, up until that time I had never been invited to hunt with Ryan and just figured it was his time to get away. He never expressed interest in me learning and I just figured it was a 'his hobby'. In all fairness, I never asked him if he would like to learn any of my hobbies...several years ago though I DID express interest in learning to shoot a bow but, his shoulder was giving him grief so that never really transpired until this year. (Thank you Ryan and Stacey Sanpei for hooking me up). Within the last year or two was when I guess I started thinking maybe I would like to learn and Ryan really started asking me if I would be interested in going hunting with him. I really wanted to give him time to think about what he was asking me. I mean, if I started hunting his 'guy time' at elk camp would cease to exist. I was thinking he CLEARLY hadn't thought this through. And again, he doesn't join me on my spa days with the girls and isn't it kind of the same thing? Thirdly, I HATE being cold. It is seriously a level of hell for me. I would rather go hungry. So, to make a short story long, we talked about my concerns, I asked him like 1,786 questions, got awesome warm gear and went on our first hunt together. Besides not seeing even 1 bear, it was fun. And our next trip coupled with awesome friends was even more fun! So, I hope this long-winded story helps explain why after 17 years I agreed to try and learn to hunt. Woman really aren't an enigma!

Awesome thread! Just read thru this -- brought back a lot of deja vu moments from my moose hunts. Seeing a LOT of bulls, deciding on "shoot or not", and holding out for the right one. Was a little easier for me, as my Idaho moose hunting ground was about 2 miles from my house and I could spend an enormous amount of time out there w/o having to sacrifice much. Ended up passing on a lot of bulls, turned my tag back to F&G TWICE when living in SE Idaho, and then drew a third time and connected in N Idaho (same unit as this thread) when we moved back up north. I've never had as much fun hunting as I did when hunting moose.
