300 win mag , which rifle ?

Any thoughts on helping me choose my next 300wm bolt gun. I’m on the fence with A7 ss24” fluted with threaded muzzle$900, xbolt hell canyon speed $1100, or win extreme ss$1150. Mainly hunting rifle , I like the shorter barrel of the sako handiness shooting out of blind for Wi whitetail. Will also use for Elk in Colorado. Ranges to be under 500 yds , any others that might be a good fit?

I agree with Downeaster, A7 out of those, but I will say it, take a look at the tikka models! Also Christensen Mesa would be at the very top of my list. Had the Hell's Canyon in 300 win, ended up selling it. Just wasn't as impressed with it as I was the short action canyon.

.300 Win Mag, my favorite all time caliber. (I have 6 right now) Of those you listed, the A7 but I would spend a little more and look at the Christensen Mesa.

If you were to really be looking to buy a lifetime rifle, I would look at Cooper, then Christensen, then Fierce and I would also be considering a custom rifle built to fit you. I love spending other peoples money!

If I were you, I would buy a Browning X Bolt Stainless Stalker and order a McMillan Game Scout stock. This is a sweet rig. You would be into it about $1600.

Anyone know if the barrels are the same for all xbolt as far as twist rate/ accuracy. For example comparing the stainless stalker, normal xbolt , hell’s canyon speed?

I had the a7. Was a nice rifle but didn’t shoot under moa with a variety of bullets. The store took it back and got a ca Mesa and I like it better. Shoots really good and just feels better for me. The a7 is a very nice gun though and I rarely here one that doesn’t shoot. Both were 300 win

I just went through this same scenario. That A7 was on the list for a while, but ended up kicking it.
I was down to the CA Mesa and a Browning, then ran into a good deal on a Fierce Fury on the classifieds here.
Pretty sure my next gun will be in then CA Mesa or Ridgeline.

The rate of twist on Sako and Tikka are deal breakers for me (I prefer to shoot heavy and/or non-lead bullets) so I'd consider the Xbolts specifically the Hells Canyon Speed or Long Range before the others. FWIW, Browning has an 8% rebate for a few more days so that could save you a few schmeckles.

Most 300wm are 1:10 twist until you get into their "long range" rifles. I didn't want the extra weight of a LR gun.
If having a 1:8 twist in a factory gun is important, there are very few out there except the LR versions.

Browning rifles/barrels are made by Moruko of Japan, have been for well over 20 years - There are a surprising number of rifles and shotguns made for "gun companies" by Moruko and if you research that fact one will find that they build some of the most accurate factory rifles on the planet, always have

I VERY NEARLY sprung for a Finnlite last year, had the wallet out, but then after fidgeting with the magazine released process I decided against it, does the A7 have the same "depress to drop" magazine process ? I hear and read a bunch about Christensen Arms rifles, all I know about CA is 15-20 y/o experiences with varmint rifles, 6 of 'em all together and what I came away with for barrel longevity was not good across the board Oh, and 1 22/250 that would not shoot worth a darn with ANYTHING but it was one of their rebarrel jobs so I was SOL -

Curious why you "won't mention" T3x superlight Tikka 300 Win Mag - I have one, son has one, his cousin has one - All 3 shoot 180 & 200 grain premiums well enough, and fast enough, to kill elk and deer consistently from 200 - near 600 yards, never a non feed, malfunction or hangfire that I ever recall - For regular price of $749 at SW in a hunting rifle that, although not an "ultra lightweight" they are pretty darn light weight a solidly built - that seems like a good bargain to me ?

I do agree with the twist issue on the tikkas though. But that being said it just limits me from shooting some 212gr Eldx's i bought and wanted to try. 180 and 200gr accubonds shoot lights-out like deerkiller said.

I have the hells canyon speed in the .300 win mag. Great gun and shoots great. The factory muzzle break is a huge bonus.

I like the m70 extreme SS. I have one in 30-06 but if I was getting a 300 I’d probably go that route again.
