What is everyones opinion of a .300 rum as a long range rifle caliber? Never shot one but the ballistics are pretty impressive...

Pushes heavy bullets fast. Recoil is what you’d expect. Most put a brake on it. Very manageable with a brake, but very loud.

I love mine with 210 VLD’s. I get 3060 FPS out of the muzzle with a 28” barrel. The rifle is heavy and I have a Ross Schuler brake on it. Recoil is not an issue.

Had 3 of them. They do have a kick, but not unbearable. Hanging on to a couple hundred rounds of brass cause I’ll own another one.

As a total .30 caliber fanboy, (that includes 4 .300 Win Mags and 2 .300 WSMs) I love the Christensen Arms .300 RUM that I have. Definitely want to use a brake on it but man does it send a message downrange. Will never not have at least one RUM in the safe and in the truck when hunting where I want to reach out and get somethings attention. Very accurate cartridge from the ones that I have played with.

I have two left hand Remington 700 LSSs in 300 RUM. I like the cartridge a lot; however, long range to me, with these rifles, is 700 yards. The farthest I have shot anything with either is just over 500 yds. With one, I shoot 200 gr Nosler Accubonds and with the other, I shoot 200 gr Barnes LRXs and 210 Bergers (bought a bunch before I started reading about the 215 Bergers). Neither rifle is braked. Both are just a little over nine pounds scoped. They do have some recoil, but I don’t find it too bad.

700 is long range to me. And I would put a brake on it cause I’m a wimp and I’ve accepted it at this point. 215 bergers would be pretty sweet

I really want to shoot copper bullets since California has made it law... and the RUM has high velocity for bullet expansion at longer ranges and the ability to take down elk. Just hesitant because of the recoil but mostly because I never thought I would be an ultra mag kinda guy.
Does it use the same size action as a 300win mag?

I need to clarify my earlier post. 700 yards would be about my limit with these sporter rifles. That definitely isn’t because of the cartridge or even the rifle, it is due to my inability to shoot any better.

I am pretty sure the same length action is used for the 300 RUM or 300 Win (long). The 300 RUM could benefit from an extended magwell but that requires some modification of the action on the Remington 700. I have not done that to my rifles. A custom action, such as a Defiance, can be ordered set up for an extended magwell.

The 300 RUM and 300 WM are not the same action lengths.
Am I correct in saying a 30nosler has the same action length as a 300win mag while a 300rum has a longer ultra mag size action? But the 300rum is able to get slightly more velocity than the 30nosler correct?

I love the .300 rum it is all I use for elk & moose. I actually have two of them one a Remington Sendero can shoot one hole the other a Fierce Firearm CT edge about 6lbs with no recoil at all. The caliber is a dream to load for. I settled on 200 gr Accubonds 3150 FPS for everything 50 ft to wherever. I absolutely love them.

Ya the 300rum is starting to appeal more and more to me. Cause it's America and why not? High velocity and big bullets,,, it sounds fun.
