For those of us with boats stuck in money loosing Ca due to Newsom rule, he is now proposing a 300% increase in our boat registrations.

Thats on top of the 4% fee they just passed if you sell your house.
Darn sure glad I live in MT and my boat registration is permanent. I've never been a fan of Newsom he really does seem like an idiot. Most politicians do though so I guess that's par for the course.

If he does that, he'll lose the Sportfish Restoration Act Trust Fund recreational boating safety money that the Coast Guard provides each year. For California, that amounts to millions of dollars. By law, the amount charged for boat registration cannot exceed actual costs. States are already on notice about charging more for larger vessels. They don't cost any more to register than small ones.

California would lose 5.5 Million. https://uscgboating.org/grants/grants_details_states.php?id=48

Wait, the state is charging you to sell your home?

There is a transfer tax $1.10 per $1000 in profit.
Capital gains is often waived since the exclusions are broad.
It all shakes out in the end
Our property tax is some of the lowest in the nation
So a state that doesn’t charge some sort of transfer fee will make that money through property taxes.

4% on homes worth 5-10 million dollars.
So not many of our homes. Less then 1% of the inventory
