Completely understandable, the only reason I asked is because the Absolute Hammers like a faster powder. I think you could probably get another 150-200 FPS out of that load with a different powder.

Call Steve at Hammer and ask him about the Varget. That is your likely choice.
Hammer has shared load data on their Facebook page as well.

Yes a silencer makes a huge difference in recoil, so does stock design though. At one point I had 3 different 375HH rifles, none of them were the same. One of them was an absolute nightmare to shoot, it would take skin off my thumb and trigger finger as well as scope you if you weren’t holding it perfectly. Another one of those 375s was/is very easy to shoot and has none of those consequences. That is stock design.

I don't disagree. I had an old Sako AV with monte carlo stock and it felt like taking a left hook whenever you shot it. I'd have suppressed it, but it was in such good vintage condition I couldn't bring myself to alter the original Bofors barrel on it.

I was partially tongue in cheek. If I was going to go through the effort/expense of swapping a stock though, I'd look into a suppressor unless the stock was especially bad.

We anxiously await your results, as I really hope the 30-06 remains up to the task ;)
Especially since I just cleaned up this ol' Remington BDL 30-06 for my mom to have a dedicated elk rifle! I replaced the plastic grip cap and forend cap with actual ebony wood, refinished the stock with Tru oil, added pillar glass bedding and a triggerteck. It got a VariX2 3-9x40. She loves classic style and accuracy, so I figured this would fit her style 😎

I have yet to see a browning xbolt that didn't shoot exceptionally well! Of course, I haven't been around one yet with an organic stock ;)

IMO, I say 300WM is the do-all. It used to be that 300WM ammo was significantly more expensive and harder to find. In today's landscape this is no longer the case. The gun weighs the same as a 30-06. Anything a 30-06 can do a 300WM can do better.

It definitely can burn more powder better!
94 gr vs 68gr

I don’t get why someone has to come in to a dedicated cartridge thread and debate.

30-06 or bust for me in 2024. In a time where you have to shoot the newest cartridge and are called a fudd for shooting anything else. This season I will be leaving the custom rifles in the safe and will be shooting a Factory Browning X-Bolt in 30-06 for all my rifle hunts. I topped it with a Maven RS1.2 and will be shooting Hammer 151AH monos pushed by old reliable H4350.

I am really concerned that in 2024 the 30-06 is incapable of killing animals. Below is a list of my rifle hunts for this season we will see if this caliber is obsolete.

August Maui Axis Deer
September Antelope
Oct/Nov So Cal Deer
Nov 3rd Season Mule Deer
January Sonora Coues

Stay tuned, I will let you know in this thread if the bullets bounce off.

Oh one last thing it has a stock made out of some weird organic material???

That load in that rifle will kill everything you are hunting within a reasonable distance. Love the old school of the 06 coupled with new school loads and glass...enjoy!!!

Around 2930 with 56.5 of H4350.
Boooooo, you got to bump those numbers up. Im getting 2810 fps with the 178 ELD-X in a 20” barrel with 56.5 gr H4350, you should easily be able to get those 151 AH over 3100 fps with a 24” barrel.

Then again my brothers X-Bolt in 6.5 PRC is roughly 150 fps slower than it should be so that might be the case with yours if you are hitting pressure.

My 18” 30-06 gets 2710 with 180g accubonds. I decked 2 caribou with it last spring and I’ll use it for moose and blacktail this fall.

No, anything a 30-06 can do, a 300wm can do 100-150 yards or so further. A 308 a bit shorter than the -06. That's it. Magnums buy you extended range.

180s in a 3006 are no slouch in the ballistics department.

I’ll probably shoot my 3006 a lot more once I get my Magnus RR suppressor. It’s a bit of a hand full with a standard suppressor but still manageable.

Nothing wrong with the ought 6! Good choice in my book. All I use is a .300 win mag, just a suped up ought 6. With 150gr round all the way up to 200+ , I shoot antelope all the up to elk, and moose if I ever do a moose hunt

My 30-06 holds 5 down with a hinged floor plate. I like that for grizzly bears. 300WM won’t do that
