270 Success on big game.

Have not used the .270 in a few years but have used it extensively. I’d not hesitate to use it on anything in NA. I’ve had 1/2 dozen of them over the years and they all shot 140g bullets over a max load of H-4831 best. Swift A Frames for big stuff, BTips/Accubonds for the rest.

Ive shot a few deer and one seen a whole lot more deer killed with a 270 Winchester.
Its hard to beat a stiff charge if imr 4350 and 130 gameking in a 270.
Here’s a m77 mark 2 I had in 270 Winchester with a nice doe I shot.
I currently don’t own a 270 and I’ve been thinking I need to solve that issue.

The 270 is 100 years old this year and better than ever with all the newer powders and bullets. The older cup and core 130's still work great though.

I was a 270 guy for several years, still like them a bunch, very versatile cartridge that kills well, I have a bunch of pictures of 270 critters around, and my last 270 is killing stuff every year with my sis in law. I shot mostly 130gr sst’s with some partitions mixed in

Here is one of my 270 victims, 12 yds, 130sst, so close to 3k impact velocity

They were both great, I liked the sst better because they shot so well, but both performed great for me. My sis in law is still shooting sst in my last 270 I gave her and they continue to perform great.

I switched to partitions for awhile because I was worried about the sst being so explosive at close range, and I thought a good hunting bullet should hold together and penetration was the primary concern, and I didn’t understand how bullets actually killed.

I would have no issue doing the rest of my hunting with a 270 and a 130gr sst, and would choose it over a partition, because they are a very destructive bullet from rock chucks to elk

I usually use 130 Nosler Partition for everything.

The only reason I would not use .270 Winchester is if I were able to acquire the right 7x57. I have zero interest in most 7mm cartridges, much less the latest, greatest six point something or other, but 7x57 is a classic.
