.25 Cal (Quarter Bore) / Big Game Success - 25 Creed, 25-284, 25-06, 25 PRC, 25 SAUM

Two deer so far this year with my 25 SAUM and Berger 135 LRHTs. Wife’s doe at 271 yards, lungs were jello on that one. Maybe made it 10 yards before going down. Then my buck at 550 yards, impact velocity right around 2500. Photos are of the buck.
Congrats! That is a Stud of a buck!

That is a big bodied buck! What did he weigh in at?

Is there a discernible difference in the recoil impulse of the 25 Creedmoor and the 6.5 Creedmoor? The 25 Creedmoor is intriguing on paper, but I think it might be a bit of data masturbation that is irrelevant in the field.

I don’t know but Hornady did a pod comparing 22-6-25-65 creeds. They basically said inside of 600 the bc differences with the smaller ones were made up by speed compared with 6.5. The 25 they couched as an “all arounder” and best for balance of barrel life, ballistics etc so they pushed it as perfect match cartridge. Thats what stuck out to me anyways. Depending on bullet, 128 or 134 vs 140-147 in the 6.5, I’d just run them through a recoil calculator. Doubting there’s a ton of difference.

Recoil ratings are a lie in most cases IMO because every gun will recoil differently depending on how it’s built. I tend to shoot heavier guns which tend to have less felt recoil than a mountain style rifle.

I don’t shoot the 25 for recoil but rather because I love the 25 caliber and it gave me another excuse to build a new gun. Inside 600 yards, I believe, the shooter will be the difference in accuracy not the cartridge.
