.25 Cal (Quarter Bore) / Big Game Success - 25 Creed, 25-284, 25-06, 25 PRC, 25 SAUM

Quarter bore love. Here is the 25-06AI I just built to re-purpose a BAT Vampire action and XLR chassis.

Fire formed 50 pieces of brass. Shot a ladder with Berger 133EH and Retumbo. Loaded 60.3 grains to 63.4 using load data from Berger. MV ranged from 3047 on the low side to 3245 on the high. The more amazing thing is the 8 charges in the middle grouped at .625 MOA. The only oddball was the 63.4 load that shot down into the bigger group. I will now run some groups from and settle on my final load.25 Ackley Retumbo.jpeg

What barrel length are you running?

Ran across a new to me wildcat on the Africa Hunting forum- .25/264 WIN MAG AI. It runs similar to .257 weatherby, but may have cheaper brass options.

According to the OP on (1/11/24), "CH4D has multiple 25-264 Win Mag Ackley Improved dies in stock for $116 plus shipping. 4D Rentals lists that they have the Ackley reamer.

From the description it closely resembles the .25 ICL Magnum in PO Ackley's Handbook for Shooters & Reloaders Vol II pg 155."

That would an interesting round for sure, and a guy could likely neck down quality 7 mag brass in one pass. Upon quick search at Midway, a guy can save around $40/50 pieces of Petersen brass using 7mag instead of weatherby ($75 vs $111 per 50 before tax).

7rem mag neck comes out 30-40thou shorter than the wby but it seems to work just fine. Although peterson makes 257wby brass so I’d go that route to get better brass and cheaper than wby by ~$15/100pcs. But like you said peterson 7rem mag is cheaper still. So you could go that route with a 257wby and save money as well if a guy wanted to.

Roger that and I wonder why the case capacity is listed differently. I see 84-85 for 257 wby and 82 for 264 and 7 win mag. According to Google AI, the 264 WMAI has 83.5.

No pics to add but the 257 weatherby was my go to for years. The explosive 117 hornady sst made for the type of kills this hot rod is known for! The 110 nosler accubond did a great job as well but much less dramatic. I killed gophers, grouse, deer, black bear, caribou, moose, mountain goats and my one stone sheep with this rig. I dont own a 25 currently but I think the 25 creed may be in my future. Low recoil should make this a round a guy could shoot very well.

That’s sounds about right. The 257wby has slightly less case taper, longer neck, and is case oal is .050” longer so naturally it will have slightly more case capacity.
