Killing me smalls! I want to build a 25-284 so bad. I need to win the lottery lol I guess the 25cm that’s in the works will suffice. . . For the time being
Until the reamer is stuck down the bore it can still be whatever you want. Hell, even if it's already been chambered you can still have it reamed to a 25-284. ;)

That won’t offset the cost of a new action, dies, and 300 cases though :( otherwise I’d be down that road!

I suspect some Xmas money and will be putting that on a shiny new Tikka action!

Does anyone have ballistics for a 25 SST with 18-20” barrel 130+ class bullets?
I just had my 25sst cut down to 18” from 26” along with setting the chamber back .120” It may have been a waste of money as the barrel already had 1350rounds on it. The barrels whole life I ran a mild load of 58gr of h-1000 at 3170 with the 131ACE. The barrel had slowed down to 3130fps before I sent it to the smith. Got it back ran some of that same ammo 58gr of h-1000 through it and to my suprise it was only producing 2850fps. This was a lot bigger drop than I expected as I’ve seen others cut down and only lost 22fps/inch. Although this is a worn rock creek barrel reamed with a new reamer different from the original dimensions I’ve only put a few shots through it. Seemed to be accurate but the lower than expected velocity was not great. But like I said it’s a sporter barrel with 1350 rounds on it before it was cut down and used a different reamer. After I work with it some if I don’t get what I want with h1000 velocity wise Il switch to rl26 or n570 and should be able to run over 3000 easily. RL26 shot 131s at 3265 very well in my rifle and another friends rifle that both had 26” bbls originally but both of those powders can run the 131s over 3300 in 26” bbls. I got my 22creed back at the same time as my 25sst so I’ve been shooting it and put the 25 on the back burner for now.

I’m going to build a 25-06AI on either a Savage action (model 12 I’m eyeballing on 24hr, don’t own currently) or a Weatherby MkV.

I’m not savvy enough to know all of the pros and cons, can anyone give me a compelling reason to pick one over the other?

To my knowledge you have way more flexibility with a savage than you do a weatherby. I’ve built multiple savages but I’m not a weatherby guy though

I'm not that familiar with all the different Savage actions but the 25-06 especially with the new heavy for caliber bullets will need a long action so if one of them isn't a long action I'd pick the one that is a long action because with the 133-135's you'll probably be somewhere around a overall loaded cartridge length of 3.5 - 3.5+

I was headed down the -06AI path for a long time. However, you may want to consider a 25 Creed instead. It can push the same 133-135 bullets to 3,000 fps while burning about 25% less powder than the -06AI. Less powder means less muzzle blast, recoil, and barrel erosion. It also doesn’t require fire forming brass and fits in a short action.

The only reason I haven’t started my 25 Creed build is because I’m sitting on a ton of 25-06 brass I spent a good amount of time to neck down, trim, and ready for my existing rifle.
