Anybody tried it yet? If so, any pointers? Specially what coal would fit without hitting the lands? How much (preferably percentage) did you or did you not reduce your powder charge for the reduced coal? Velocity?

Trying to get some pointers before I dive off in the rabbit hole blindly

Why not just run the 88eldm in it? The cartridge is optimized for the heavy bullets. The 77tmk is popular with the 223 because it is about the heaviest bullet you can magazine feed with a 223.

Entertainment mostly, but also just to have options. I am currently shooting the 75 and 88 Eld-ms pretty good, but I’m always watching for a good deal and like to have 3 or 4 options for everything

Are you shooting an AR or bolt? For COAL, you're going to need to determine that. Get yourself a comparator and find the distance to lands and adjust from there.

Hodgdon has data to get you started. It's with a Nosler RDF, but it will give you ideas of potential charges and velocity out of a 24" test barrel. Based off the stopping PSI, this is gas gun data so if loading bolt, you could push it a little more.

I'm getting 2957 fps with mine. It's 20 or 30 thousandths off. I don't know how long it is, but mine's a single shot, so length isn't a problem.

Hornady publishes 62k psi bolt gun data too.

I gave up on 22 ARC (just didn't fit in with my other calibers) but I did mess with 77 TMK before I threw in the towel. COL was 2.233" to the lands.

I loaded it with N133 and got 2900fps from a 20" AR. You could chase velo with Lever or CFE223.

I hit the lands at 2.238” and I am running 2.220” for coal. Cfe223 has me in the 2900 range with a 16” AR. At that coal, only the boat tail is below the neck so plenty of case capacity. I only briefly played with it as I was desperately trying to get the 88 eldm to work but the damn tips keep breaking off on the feed ramps. Didn’t end up having time to really develope the tmk load so I used my daughters 18” 223 wylde AR on my mule deer hunt last week and took a nice 26” wide big bodied toad at 250yds with the 77 tmk with a 2750fps muzzle velocity. Had a branch slightly blocking vitals on a perfectly broadside shot so I went with neck/shoulder junction and anchored him on the spot and still took out lungs somehow. These 77 tmk’s really are magic pixie dust. I need to add to the 223 kill thread.

I know this is old but I am running at 2.250”
Curious if you'd mind sharing your load wit RL17? I see it available now and I'm waffling between picking some of that up or N540 to start. I realize you're loading for a gas gun but a starting point for a bolt gun would be awesome.

Not powders your mentioned but I put together a tikka 22 arc with an 18” barrel. I’m using cfe223 and getting just over 3100 with the 77 tmk’s. Really did not do load dev, just used the Hornady max load to start and they shot great so stuck with it.

Also using cfe223 in my gas gun. Also 18” barrel and getting 2940 or so with the 77’s.

Man that's great to know, thanks! I think I'll be hunting down some CFE223 for sure.
