I'm a DK guy but maybe one day I'll get a long haired German dog.
My wife and I have been dead set on a Gordon for our next dog, but she's a collector of bird dogs so we probably have a LM or DL in our future at some point. We have the Kurzhaars if we need tracking/water work done so we're in no rush go get another one. I agree with you though, there sure are a lot of DK breeders around that are very proud of their dogs. In my experience most of them aren't what I'm looking for.I was a DK guy too. I took off from hunting and dogs for 10 years and when I resumed it, I was seriously considering a DK. Unfortunately, I know too much about the DK, which made me very picky. The long story short I didn't find what I was looking for through NADCK or DK-GNA and the once I liked didn't have pups.
I didn't want a DD due to their unmitigated drive and they look very ugly. lol
The SM may have an issue with pointing and are too close working for me.
I started my hunting career with Setters, so the DL was natural choice for me. Their emphasis on natural calmness and the sound on the track also drew to them. So far, no complaints.
The one in the photo is undergoing a breeding certification. I'll see how it goes. I may breed her if she passes a 20-hour blood test this fall.
