.223 for bear, mountain goat, deer, elk, and moose.

It's taken me several years to convince some of my shooting partners to use and buy a tikka t3x in 223. Along with this, ive tried to install the principals that are taught in the shoot2hunt classes, with mixed results as some "old school" guys are still stuck in that mentality. BUT i'm slowly making progress.🙂
Today, one of the recent converts made a 798 yard shot on a rockchuck with a factory tikka 223, 77 tmk, maven rs 1.2, although it did have a rokstok. 3 shots with the shooter/spotter dialog in 20 mph winds.....it was epic. (Elkhunter777 on the slide)
This is our annual week-long rockchuck safari which is in our 24th year.

NAS3 5.56 77gr TMK in stock here…

Hopefully, posting this link is allowed. Don't have experience with this store but was sent a gift card. Scrolling through the offerings, they've got a Tikka 223 T3X Lite listed at $589. Going to be calling today to see if it's 1-8"

Follow up on this. Placed an order today. Super friendly people, even walked in back and grabbed the last one they had in stock after website wouldn’t allow to add to cart.

First tikka. Guess I’ll have to start rifle hunting more.

Ol' JVB is back at it again. Rokslide lives in his soul by this point. He should just have some conversations with people who are planning to hunt with the 223 and 77tmk and actually observe some kills. Small cartridges are not the end all be all for everyone in every situation but they have a place for many people in many situations.

Wait, who knew that if you high shoulder punch a Caribou with a .375 h&h it'll 'drop instantly' ? 🙄

Im ashamed at myself for reading that article. It was exactly what I thought it would be lol

I bet you those bullets fragments are from his beef bone stunt.

I thought the exact same thing. I didn't make it through the entire article, tough to read.

I do think I'd pass on trying to make a hard quartering away shot get into the chest cavity on a bull elk at close range. I prefer high neck shots or just waiting for a proper shot at the chest cavity, regardless of caliber/bullet construction.

He claims that “this practice of using small cartridges for big game sidesteps the laws of physics” and then offers no proof supporting this claim. You’d expect this to be followed by at least a bit of math or physics from any well-intentioned and intelligent person capable of crafting a logical, quantitative argument.

At best he offers a surface level discussion of SD but paragraph upon paragraph of opinion and conjecture. He presents an argument that can’t be proven wrong, which is the best indicator of a weak argument.

In any circle I run in, I’d get laughed out of the room for presenting such a piece. I can’t imagine publishing this for the public to consume with my name on it.
