I bet I had newer rounds. I'm very sure on my data. Tikka barrels are slow but they aren't that slow.Strange. That’s much closer to what I was expecting.
I am trying out the "bone frog" 5.56 TMK loading next.

I had a 1/7” twist barrel put on an old Remington Model Seven and chambered in 223AI. Got it dialed in with 8208XBR at 2710fps. Two 3 round groups fired on different days:

And here’s the first critter on the ground, a yearling doe at 185 yards went about 10 yards. Bullet diameter entrance, broke both shoulders, exit was about dime size with the jacket stuck in the offside hide

77gr TMKNoicccccce!
What bullet?
Yep. 2700-2750 is what it has always been from 16-18” barrels@LimeSpoon I can confirm that NO changes have been made to the BHA 77gr TMK from the factory. current lots are the same as previous years.
Sierra 55 grain SBT proved to be an excellent bullet for me in a 1in14 Ruger number 1. I killed deer from 25 yards to 200 yards. The bullet holds up very well for a traditional cup and core even at higher velocities.Have a 1-12 twist 22-250. Shots won’t be terribly far so BC not a huge deal. Deer and smaller game. Recommendations on bullets?
That is more or less a game king bullet?Sierra 55 grain SBT proved to be an excellent bullet for me in a 1in14 Ruger number 1. I killed deer from 25 yards to 200 yards. The bullet holds up very well for a traditional cup and core even at higher velocities.
My family has had good luck with the Hornady 60 gr sp in the 22-250 also used the 60 gr tmk in a 223.Have a 1-12 twist 22-250. Shots won’t be terribly far so BC not a huge deal. Deer and smaller game. Recommendations on bullets?
I think the best bullet for hunting deer with your current rifle configuration would be the Winchester 64 grain PowerPoint loaded ammo or the 50 grain TTSX. Keep your shots sub 200 yards so your velocity remains high. I'd suggest planning on a new fast twist barrel if you want to hunt deer sized game with that rifle.Have a 1-12 twist 22-250. Check Berger's twist rate stability calculator. https://bergerbullets.com/twist-rate-calculator/Have a 1-12 twist 22-250. Shots won’t be terribly far so BC not a huge deal. Deer and smaller game. Recommendations on bullets?
Yuh reloading. You reloading? My cheap ass would be hunting down the 2nd's. 55gr-60gr. Contrary to belief, they wont bounce off of things...........
It sure performs like one. That is more or less a game king bullet?
It sure performs like one.
1/8 shoots them down here in Texas near sea level with all the environmentals working against it.I keep reading conflicting reports on using a 1/8 for the TMK, saying it doesn't "quite" stabilize it as well as a 1/7 and can have some problems past 400 yards.
Looking at a Criterion 20", wish they made a 1/7 just to soothe my nerves.
Bullets become more stable as they go down range. I’m using 75 ELDs (it’s longer and needs more twist than the 77 tmk) at a mv of 2600 and have good stability,I keep reading conflicting reports on using a 1/8 for the TMK, saying it doesn't "quite" stabilize it as well as a 1/7 and can have some problems past 400 yards.

The vast majority of posters here are using a factory tikka barrel twisted at 1:8”. The label/box for the 77TMK says 8” or faster. I’m not aware of anyone ever posting here with an 8” twist and not being able to shoot the 77TMK.I keep reading conflicting reports on using a 1/8 for the TMK, saying it doesn't "quite" stabilize it as well as a 1/7 and can have some problems past 400 yards.
