I used that in my pistol, seems to be OK all around. It's SLOW though, think box speed is like 2,200 fps if memory serves. We think we could actually see it with the naked eye shooting at night. I figure the interlock should be great for pigs and such.

I see the box posted as super slow, but when I went to Hornadys website it was box posted with a 10 or 11inch barrel. I did some digging on the googles and saw faster velocities from 16 inch gas guns, and even faster from 20 inch gas guns. My 22 incher seems to shoot them really close the to the 223 75 bthp load, so my hope is I can practice with the bthp and then shoot the interlocks at game. I may still need to just bit the bullet..... (new dad over here had to do it) and buy a case of 73 eldm but I was just curious and these were dirt cheap locally since nobody including the kid at check out thinks you can shoot em from 223 bolt guns.

That could be it. My buddy brought his Garmen and the 75 bthp out of my 223 was right above 2700 but not the 2790 on the box.

I'm good with it, since I'm not nearly good enough to run out of velocity before I run out of skills.

Confirmed: Test Barrel (11.5") for the Interlock and 24" barrel for the 223 BTHP.

I'm gonna try some of this stuff in our bolt action 20" and see how it does. Should be great for pigs.

I’ve shot about 25-30 pigs with the 75 Interlock out of an 18” 223. Not factory ammo but overrun bullets Midway had cheaper than 55 FMJs. I loaded them over TAC in once fired range brass, shot a couple rocks to confirm that zero was close enough, and then left a couple mags in the door pocket of the truck.

They don’t behave like a tipped bullet on game. They act like a typical traditional “big game” bullet. IE they expand back about half their length and retain about 2/3-3/4 of their weight. They will penetrate deeply and plow through shoulders or hips no problem but they do not open the big wide wound channel like a fast expanding fragmenting bullet.

Thank you! I appreciate the real world experience. Sounds like an effective bullet given appropriate shot selection, but not as much terminal performance as some of the favorites in the thread. Since they're 16$ a box here, I may try them on game to add to the data around here.

I honestly expected them to come apart a little more, but I suppose the retention ring is doing what it was designed to do and that prevents more expansion and fragmentation

That's a pretty good price. The lowest I see them for online is around $1.05/round and and Midway wants $29/box for them. Looks like it might be a pretty good bullet for people who want a more traditional type bullet and a pass through. Look forward to your reports on it.

Just looking at this again, the bullets in the black sbr 5.56 that I haveare a single cannelure on the interlock. Are yours the TAP version?

I have no idea. They were sold as mystery bullets “with interlock ring” hint hint, from Midway. A little sleuthing showed them to be Hornadys.

Not asking for drops. Asking for a verified BC as a starting point. The BC AAC lists is 3.98, which is actually Hornady's 75 bthp match (no cannelure). Tech on the phone told me there wouldn't be much difference.

I should note this is AAC's 5.56 75bthp, so about 2641 avg from my 16" barrel

If you have the velocity, and drops, a ballistic app will give you the calculated BC. Your going to need the drops anyway.

2540 fps. 23.8 gr A2520 Rem 7 1/2 primers in LC brass w/ Scythe Ti can.
Barrel had 55 rounds total through it when I measured this velo.

I stumbled across this site by accident a few weeks ago while researching 7mm-08 terminal performance because I want a more compact rifle with less recoil that I would want to shoot more often. I saw a comment from Mr. Form talking in depth about 6.5 CM vs. 7mm-08, which led me down a rabbit hole to here. I'm 50 pages and 1,000 comments in with 9,000 more comments to go. My wife is starting to get suspicious and jealous since I've been glued to my phone the past few nights, lol.

I'm in my early 30s, and I've been hunting my whole life, but nothing serious like y'all do here. I sort of just accepted all the conventional fuddlore from mainstream forums and YouTube and didn't think much past it. I've been shooting a .30-06 since I was 14 because that's what I was told was needed to anchor 120-lb Deep South whitetails.

Anyway, this isn't a particularly noteworthy comment, but I just wanted to express my gratitude for totally changing my viewpoint and educating me. I still have a lot to learn, but knowing that my dream of a short, handy, mild-recoiling rifle that's capable of ethically harvesting big game is a reality is exciting.
