Heartfelt congratulations…well done.Went for a snow machine ride after work and found some tracks. Followed the tracks a mile til we saw the bear climbing a hill. Rushed over there got under 200 yards. 1st shot high shoulder to break the shoulder blade and also get the lungs. The bear fell and started rolling down the hill, got up was biting at its shoulder. Started up the hill so I shot it again at maybe 200 yards heart lung got up over the hill so we climbed up and found it dead at the top. The bear is between 8-8.5 feet. Ive seen bears drop and die in there spot with 1 shot and some take 5-10 heart lungs and still run.

I’m guessing 62 grain FMJ.Yes, what load did you shoot, @Dbevans ?
That is a really cool looking buck!Roe deer is to Europe like Whitetail is to the US and here there is also a special appreciation for non typicals, like this that I hunted last weekend using my Blaser K95 single shot in 5,6x50R. Load used was Hornady's 75gr ELDM pushed by 26,0 gr of Varget for 2,906 fps.

Shot was taken from 225 yds and the bullet went through the heart. The buck jumped high in the air and left on a death run for 20-25 yds. In the next pictures you can see entry and exit sides in the carcass. View attachment 703391View attachment 703392View attachment 703390
I think someone should take it up a notch to Cape Buffalo, the North American dangerous game pinnacle has now been taken with the 223. I think African dangerous game should naturally be next.So now that the thread has its first brown bear what’s next on the list of firsts?

They’ll call it a fluke and really luckyMan… what are all the “.338WM minimum for elk/moose/bears” gonna say now?
I have a guide that will sell me a Buffalo from Ted Turner's ranch for a discount. I'll start a GoFundMe for it here and if Rokslide pays I'll use the 223I'd like to see someone take a Bison. Those are some big animals as well and are fairly tough. Nilgai should be on the list as well.
Biased sampling. We aren’t hearing from the dozens, perhaps hundreds, of forum members who were eaten by bears attempting this. They’ll call it a fluke and really lucky
