22 creedmoor vs 6 creedmoor for sub 600 yard Big game?

Right on looking good iv been out with my 22 cm a bunch im up to 180 rounds thru it running the 80.5 berger at 3265 fps it tears coyotes real bad and dose a number on black bears as well farthest was 525 yards.
What is your barrel length for that velocity? My 18in with a bat action is pretty spicy above 3150 with 88s. I have a 22in 22gt that shoots marvelous at 3150 with the 85.5s.

I know this thread is a bit older but I’m considering 22 vs 6 creedmoor myself. I’m in California and need to use monos so looking at the McGuire or hammer bullets. I really want a low recoiling rifle to hunt deer, pigs, coyotes, and maybe elk out to 600 yards. Should I go 22 or 6 creed?

Sounds like a perfect application for the 22 Creed and a Copper Rose 71g.

@mxgsfmdpx Apparently your 55” moose w/ 1 shot at 525 yards was insufficiently killed with the 22 CM & 80 ELD-X 💁🏻‍♂️
Im not saying it dosnt work... is it ideal nope. I ran quiet a few bullets out of my 22 cm 80.5 berger,80 eldx,80 eldm,70 accubond and 88 eldm by far the 2 best were the 88 eldm and 80.5 berger killed a few black bears with it and it took mule deer for a few buddies let them use the rifle while I watched... I prefer a bit bigger bullet my self. Iv since gone back to the 6.5mm with 140s as a baseline.

Just keep in mind the 71gr copper rose needs a 7 twist barrel so if you ever plan to go out of state you will risk jacketed lead bullets coming apart with high RPMs from a 22cm. You could do a 7.5 or 8 twist and shoot the 79gr DRT or a lighter Hammer in CA. If the gun is only for CA and copper monos, 7 twist 22cm is great.

The 6cm gives a bit more forgiveness in that regard if you do want to go out of state with it. A 7 twist allows you to shoot the 100gr PVA, 93gr McGuire, 89gr Apex, etc. and also shoots the heavy 6mm lead bullets at a lower velocity than the 22cm, thus lower RPMs. The 93gr McGuire might also work in a 7.5tw depending on DA. The 6mm also gets you past any 22 caliber restrictions out of state.

93 Copper rose do just fine in a 7.5tw 6cm 3k DA. They shoot really well once I sorted the bullets by base to ogive. I use comperator that accepts neck bushings for my base to ogive number, in a 6mm I use a 241 bushing. There is definitely variation in the copper rose bullets with my bushing sizes that are close to bearing diameter, but if you go to say a 237 bushing, all the variation is gone, the coal of the bullets is very consistent. I never saw the base to ogive variations in hammer bullets I've tested.

Are there any issues shooting the 80 eldm with a 7 twist? I’d definitely go with a 7 twist for the copper bullets but would be nice to have the option to shoot lead at times.
