2025 Fitness Goals Accountability Thread

July is in the bag. 160 miles (~25,000') for July, a little lower than previous months. I'm at 1243 for the year which is still a little ahead of schedule for 2025 miles.

Got a couple of short backcountry trips in, both were almost entirely off trail (had a few cuts/scrapes/bruises to show for it).

Got almost all of my twice weekly strength sessions in. Mid to late August I'll be adding one or two muscular endurance routines—weighted pack on a steep route, for the upcoming season.

While fitness is a key aspect of my goals, I’m personally expanding for some more hunting specific goals. Here are my challenges I’m going to stick to before hunting season:

Hunting Triple-Double
Inspired from the basketball stat, I’m going for three individual goals to hit before hunting season:
  1. 10 days of scouting - at 5 days
  2. 10 days at the gun-range - at 8 days
  3. 10kg (22 lbs) lost - down 10.5 lbs

Hunting Endurance
Every month I’m doing a week long endurance training session. The goal is to hike/walk 3-5 miles a day while maintaining regular exercise/activity. Hoping to build longevity so I’m not taking rest days during the hunt and can stay fresh throughout.

I started a new job this month so I haven’t done this since last time. I plan to do do one in the next few weeks.

July was pretty good for me, lots of biking and upping the rucking a bit with added weight, steeper terrain and 3 sets of walking lunges with the pack on during rucks. Here's where I'm at with my goals for the year.

Hiking/rucking miles: 160
Mountain biking miles: 2001 (finally cracked 2,000 for the year!)
Total trail miles: 2,161 of 3,000 goal for the year
Elevation Gain: 227,000 of 300,000 goal for the year (might have to increase the goal here...)
136,860 calories burned from activities this year

Even though August has been hotter than I’d like to remember, I’ve made some good progress. I have 1 week left before my 10k run, and I’m down to 188 lbs, I haven’t been out of the 190’s since my kids were born 5 years ago.

Update 7/9/2025

Weight this morning was 195.8lbs. down from 213lbs in about 6 weeks time. I feel like this past week the weight just melted off. I'm down a couple notches on my belt.

I have been staying steady with my diet & workout routine. I am still running between 1-2 miles /day, plus full body kettlebell / CrossFit type workouts. I have started increasing the incline on the treadmill for my runs.

Yesterday I did 1 mile at 7 % incline in 10:24. I definitely feel this more in my quads than running on 0 incline which seems to be helping.

My goal was to be down to ~195 by my hunt, but since I am already there I am going to keep everything pretty consistent and see if I can get down to 190.

Legs and lungs are feeling good, hip and lower back have been holding up good as well. I have my first scouting trip planned for this weekend. Likely wont put on a ton of miles since I will be taking the whole family for this initial trip. But should be able to learn lots of roads, trails, access, camping etc.

44 days since I drew the tag. 59 days until the hunt begins! I can't wait.
Update 8/22/25

I was 193.6 on the scale this morning. That puts me down ~20lbs since drawing the tag. My best mile time was 7:50 , my best 2 mile time was 16:30. On my scouting trips my legs and lungs have felt great. I am no longer pushing to better my times but instead focusing on maintenance. My lower back and hip have been feeling good in the past few weeks.

Heading up scouting this evening. Have turned up a few bulls, but no shooters yet. Hoping to change that this weekend.

Only 2 weeks until season opens!
