2025 Cold Bore Challenge Q&A Thread

2 for 2. I feel that actually is my max MER because if there is anymore wind it just tosses these slow little bullets. 3.5mph guns are are no joke past 400

Well, I'll just say these two things... I have never felt the "we suck at shooting" thing so deeply in my soul, and it's really easy to forget how much of a difference field positions make. Seated on a side hill is not the same as prone over a pack with a rear bag.

well that's why we do it, to learn what we can do for real.

good effort and cool to see the kids out shooting too.

Humble pie is a common theme in this exercise. Awesome to see you and your kids getting out there to participate!

To anyone unsure of doing the challenge because they don’t know how they’ll video or don’t have digiscoping stuff I had to duct tape my phone to my spotter because I got a new phone and none of my stuff fits. It’s not the highest quality video but it worked.

I'm in the same boat going to try some hillbilly stuff this weekend haha

I've used this guy for longer than I'm proud to admit. I've meant to upgrade to a mag view or similar for a while now, but this thing just keeps working and for $20 it's just dandy.

Maybe I'll win a new digiscoping setup in the drawing and finally join the cool kids. I'd rather win a S2H course and join the cool kids who actually hit their targets though.

Finally got in on the challenge - you guys were getting the shooting in fast! Left my steel targets down in Wyoming at our ranch, so had to find a plate at Scheels last night. Didn't have any T posts either, so swung by Home Depot after work before heading out. Nothing like scrambling around to make a couple shots haha

Last year I went in feeling reasonably confident I would hit both of my shots - based primarily on previous flat range results that were not of course cold bore. Yet I missed both shots last year. This year I hit both shots at similar or slightly longer ranges - yet my take away is still actually that hitting a 10” plate past 500y first shot is relatively hard. Being a 2MOA target at 500, if we assume I am a 1 moa shooter over larger sample sizes (with a decent position), that only leaves a 1/2 MOA margin of error around the edge for a bad wind call.

I posted my second day impact info. My phone stopped recording before I shot. Should I re shoot, continue on, or ? Thanks to everyone putting this on. Post #50

My second shot is up filmed through my duct tape phone adapter. It works so well I might have to sit down and refine/patent the idea lol. In all seriousness thank you to the rokslide staff and sponsors for this extremely fun event!
