2025 - any new suppressors to hit the market?

Man it would take a lot for me to buy a suppressor from a company with that name. Not just because I think it's dumb, but because I can't help but think it speaks to the long term (or not) mindset of the people that run it.

Do you plan to be around in 10 years when the "xxxxx-AF" fad is done and everyone thinks it's dumb? If no, then I'm not interested.

If yes, what does that say about your planning and critical thinking skills? Maybe a cute "of the times" model name would be different (Q's stuff for example) but naming your whole company around something so trendy just seems to exhibit poor judgment.

Comparing a pri mk12 mod 0 w aem5, to a mk12 mod h w aem5k, how much of the "mod 0 greater than the sum of its parts" praise would be compromised just to shorten the setup a few inches?

I can’t say that I’ve used the AEM5k and a Mod H together. As long as you understand you are giving up some suppression, it will be a good shorter combo.

Interesting name for sure. I just see it’s getting a bit of social attraction. So far I’ve only seen it from some of the predator hunting guys but none seem to be real killers, from the limited info I’ve seen. Also not a lot of info on the suppressor but they’re taking orders

The reflex style cans date back quite a long ways. Pulling this out of my ass but I believe the patent i saw was around 1930. AB has done a very good job optimizing them as far as I know. My Raptor 10 is a great can considering the size, added length, and suppression/tone.

It's not ABs design, they just took it in the Raptor series and made it their own. The one big downfall with the reflex IMO is that there has to be a tradeoff in the ability to produce one or two options to fit most rifles. As your barrel diameter increases, the volume decreases and they'll likely just make one or two diameters if I'm a betting man. Probably just one to handle a sendero contour.

They're great cans for hunting rifles. They make poor "do it all" cans because of the reflex portion. Unfortunately people just getting into the game and/or the vast majority seem to want a do it all kind of can and that gets catered to. Once you own a handful, you start to realize that you'd rather have specific cans for specific jobs or firearms.

I'm excited to see what they churn up and how it compares to the AB line. Also very interested in the price point.

A very easy win for them would be multiple options for calibers. I'd rather buy two cans to cover different calibers than one overbored can. I think a 6mm, 6.5mm/.277, and a 30cal would make a good stable to choose from.

Looks similar to the baffles from OCL's line-up. Also, hard to tell, but it looks like baffle spacing is digressive, rather than progressive. Most of the silencer design forums advocate for progressive spacing (more space between baffles near proximal end, less space between baffles as you near the distal end). If it is indeed digressive, it probably deepens the tone quite a bit, which most consider more pleasant than a sharp crack.

I don't pretend to know the churched up adjectives he was using but I'm fairly certain that he has proximal and distal misused.

He's probably from reddit and is a huge fan of "Jay" from pew science. The guy who shakes down the suppressor companies to test their products and share "objective" data. He doesn't realize by being one of his "disciples" that he's just fueling the fire. This reeks of some pewscience.

I check pewscience sometimes when looking at cans just to compare a couple if he's reviewed both. What's the issue with him? Honestly don't know.

I'll check the daya too between cans I'm interested in but I'm not using it as the end all be all or even close to that. 99% of the time the data he has doesn't apply to me. There are too many people who ride his D and i guess thats what gets to me. I almost have more respect for the companies who don't pay him to test their stuff.

I have not confused proximal or distal. Proximal is closest to shooter and distal is furthest away. It's not hard to look up definitions, you should try it.

Actually did look them up because it sounded like an odd use of medical terms and the original post, at one point in time when I read it, mentioned which side was which. Now i see it doesnt. But cool man.

Also, the original post on the UM stuff said it's one of 20 something prototypes. So I think it's a bit early to call that one.

I haven't been preaching but definitely been in the appreciative camp for pewscience, as it seems like the first [opinionated] attempt at an independent objective evaluation framework for suppressors, which seems to be pushing the industry in the right direction. I'm not smart enough to dissect the measurement method, but get value out of the non-member write-ups and used his aggregate suppression rating plus string measurement graphs to pick a can without "first round pop" divergence.

If he continues to measure all cans objectively, the data gets stronger with more samples/time. But to your point, doesn't mean crap if the cost significantly outweighs value of data or worse, it's integrity. Hoping that we'll see additional datasets to help validate/invalidate, beyond pewscience and TBACs suppressor summit.

Would be interesting to get UM and Ryan's take on interaction with pewscience, IF they saw value in submitting for measurement.

The real question for me is: is there anything noticeably quieter/lighter than what I already have? After setting my ultra 7, lti and scythe, I just sort of lost interest in shopping for silencers. Is there anything coming out that’s going to be an honest upgrade or addition to what I have.

Ya, given our rokslide penchant for data and real world testing specifically for hunting (thanks Form and others), feels like a no brainer. However, we should all understand that unless UM and all involved have broken some design barriers, I'd expect to see "total suppression" not at the top, but rather so for it's length and weight. And maybe for a price that we all might get two or three to cover all calibers in our arsenal. Oh, and strong enough for some mounted drop tests!

And maybe for a price that we all might get two or three to cover all calibers in our arsenal.

At least with the first can- total decibel reduction is NOT the driving factor. Once below 140dB, other aspects are weighed more heavily- principally tone, added OAL, bulk, and balance.

As for prescience and TBAC summit- not my call, however I wouldn’t do pewscience for multiple reasons, some of which were already written about. UM has bought sound metering equipment, and I wouldn’t doubt that the cans will end up in some 3rd party testing at some point.

Oh, and strong enough for some mounted drop tests!

The can isn’t the issue. The potential problem with suppressors (potential, not absolute) is the threads and mounting interface. The best way to eliminate the issue is with an OTB can and a tapered collar at the back that it aligns with and butts into- ala OPS Inc.

I've never seen an AB raptor in real life and haven't looked at the reflex interface in detail so excuse my ignorance - but by having it modular like they do they add some weight and lose some volume vs a non-modular reflex where the reflex doesn't screw on and off?

If and when UM comes out with a can, I hope they keep all facets in house and avoid the shitshow the Rokstock has turned into. Quality control will be a much bigger deal on a can vs. a rifle stock. I look forward to what Form has alluded to.

They are- totally new and separate company dedicated to suppressors.

More than likely the students of the February shoot2hunt class will see m, hear and shoot the first prototype…. Among other items.
