Just got back from Montana on a general elk skunk near Lewistown. Some beautiful looking bird habitat around there, wish I would have brought my shotgun and dog instead of my rifle!

Did the long drive home solo and decided to get a quick hunt in with the dog before our break for rifle deer season..Glad I did…

Man you guys have me excited for this weekend, I’ll be taking my field bred golden out for her first hunt for pheasant here on the state game lands in PA. She did good on chukars during training but she hasn’t seen a pheasant before outside of just their wings.

Will be curious to see if she points any like she did with the chukars.

Took the pup to NV from CO for a crash course on wild birds. He got to where he could follow his nose pretty well and work through old and fresh scent on his own. I’ve had him out looking for duskies enough that he understands thermals and variable winds you run into hunting in 3D terrain. Next step will be getting him into the plains to start opening up his range in more forgiving terrain. We also have to work on “Drop It” since he naturally retrieves but won’t let me have the bird.
