Had a big day on nesters today. After our 3 weeks of crap weather, I set 18 cuffs yesterday and got 5 coons and 2 possums.

Anyone here in SC? IF so, I have 70 acres i need someone to trap coyotes, beavers and coons if you want to. I have caught 10 coons myself since december. PLenty more. Cant catch the damn coyotes tho. Have not bought any conibear for the beavers. Cherokee county if you want to PM me.

Starting to put up fur to finish and to ship out to the auction. Starting out slow, I figure I'd rather make a mistake on one or two, rather than a half a dozen at once.

3 more coon and a possum today. Got heavy rain coming. Popped all the cuffs and will let it dry out a few days. No need to rut up the roads and fields.

Night 43.

I left the box traps out when ground trap season started mostly out of apathy but rationalized with curiosity and I’m still intrigued when they prefer pizza and old baked chicken to the foot hold traps nearby.



I’m getting to the point in the game where I’m pulling stuff that’s awkward to get to or I can’t put eyes on going full speed in the SXS. We have 4 weeks left here. I’m repositioning of course. I put eyes on an opossum that was eating the merganser last night that didn’t come back after I left or didn’t meet pan tension trip point. Target!

Luckily, we still have frost in the ground to keep from rutting up the ground checking traps but the rain coming will probably change that. 5 coons, 4 possums and 2 coyotes in the last 10 days, should be getting better in the next few weeks. Caught over 50 coons on the farm last year, so not expecting a big season on them.

I said the same thing about coons (and opossums) when I started this season. I caught 62 opossums and 44 coons last year. But...I'm at 20/21 so far this year and have 4 weeks left.

I’m sure there are plenty of raccoons still out there, just put my DP’s out Saturday. Been cold here until last weekend.
