Now that we’re at Day 4, it‘s interesting to go back and see how everyone‘s doing (and read about people’s equipment and why they chose certain MER/vital sizes)

Seems like members are getting better at pushing themselves. While there’s some great groups on there, seems like majority are either dropping an arrow, are surprised they made a certain shot (me on day 4), or at least admitting to struggling to keep a vital-sized group.

Running this thing for 6 years, it seems many are figuring out their true MER by pushing it.

I remember the first few years people saying it was “easy” but then @realunlucky started pushing people to follow the spirit of the contest. I don’t see anyone saying that now.

And I really like the ballons for vitals. Might do that next year.

Keep it up everyone
The balloons are a really great idea. We chose things that we know we struggle at for just that reason of "pushing" ourselves. I chose an off pin distance because everything on the square range is in increments of 5 other than that lil phorn. Not coincidentally, nobody ever shoots at him in that spot because he is at 62 instead of 60/65. In our summer league they set the stakes at off pin distances one week and scores dropped noticeably. I am certain that I could shoot better at 70 rolling the sight to it, than I can at 62 holding off pin.

I think this question really is what finally convinced me to participate. I had never really done anything scientific, if you will, to decide how far I should shoot at game. I had always said 50-70 depending on conditions.

Good to hear, has it changed your mind on the 50-70?

and I do understand “…depending on conditions” and that’s why on some days I pass the shot as my MER is “maximum” meaning best conditions. Worse conditions and I should pass (or in a hunting situation, get closer).

Anway, that’s how I think about it.

Agreed. On the years I’ve shot 55 MER, I had to to hold over and that is different than 60 with a 60-yard pin

Yeah that's how I think about it too.

Well, I know for one thing my MER for sure isn't 80 like I am testing out on this challenge. I am going to redo it at 70 and see what I think once day 5 is over. I will do it with broadheads as well.

Does the post need to be liked to be accepted as valid entry?

Hi, likes mean nothing. That’s just me scrolling through and connecting with a certain post. The mods will let you know if a certain post doesn’t qualify. Thanks!

Dude, I got hunting and shoots still.

I'm trying to fit it in. I didn't shoot as well as I wanted to this past weekend, I could send one with my hunting bow, but don't know if I want to loose the days with my open bow.

All good man.

2022 CBC done for me. (Post #4) Went 4/5 and can confidently say I added 5 yards over last two years as I tied and beat those years’ scores at 55 yards

The Back Bar from @Billy Goat and the SEVRs did that for me as Lord knows my shooting abilities aren’t any better

Good luck guys.

I'll finish up this evening.

1/4 w/ the compound and 3/4 w/ the recurve so far.

Much nicer today so I've got no excuses for whatever happens this evening!

Love the CBC. The hardest part is the 1 arrow a day as I'm used to shooting 50-100 arrows daily after work because sending arrows down range is a great way to wind down after work.
It's nice to be able to shoot out to 120 yards, ( more if I wanted) at home. Makes the 60 yard shots seem a lot closer. 80 yards with a fixed blade will test you though. Especially with all the wind I'm having right now.
I'm currently sitting at 2 for 3 but I did pick a 5" target at 80 yards so my miss wasn't far off.

Wondering if I can shorten my MER next year if I'm shooting through open windows on my truck cab and into a target. Chris Bee style. LOL. I'd do say 50 yards. My truck is pretty new and expensive. haha.

5” at 80 yards takes a pair!

I oscillate between reps and these single arrow days and while I like the reps, the single arrow days give me the most confidence, (or some days they just bodyslam me. )

But I know what you mean, I love to do the reps and have like an hour to just shoot. It does wind me down like you say

I went 3/5 at 80 yards with field points. My kill zone is biggish though (12x8 inch) . Next year I think I will try fixed blades at the same distance with a slightly smaller vitals probably 8x8.

As long as you learned something about yourself, that’s a solid finish! Thanks for coming out for CBC

Do it!

a former staff member on here, Cindy Wamsley, drew her bow in her house to take a draw length measurement.

She punched the trigger, hit the light switch across the room, electrical explosion ensued. She was still in her robe with her daughter’s looking on. “Mom!!!!!!”

I've been out 4 days in a row in a few super windy conditions. Just trying to get my 5 arrows down range so I can get back to normal practicing lol. But it is a cool change up!

Every time I walk to my 75 yard mark my adrenaline starts to pump a little bit. Tomorrow will be my 5th day, and I'm kind of nervous hahaha. I have 4 cold kill shots, in a row, on a deer or an elk at 75 yards. Need one more tomorrow!! Pressure is on... myself, like any real hunting scenario.

You got it! Anyone who doesn’t feel that is better breed than me.

all the best on #5. For me, I can’t think about 1-4, just the arrow I’m shooting at that moment.
