My newest addition to the arsenal, Hazyl, a wirehaired pointing Griffon. She will be 10 weeks old this Saturday. She’s picking things up pretty quickly so far and it should be a fun bird season this fall.

Pics from the last hunt in January. The top is a still from a video I took, wish it turned out a little better. In the video you can see his cheeks puffing as he's taking in that scent :)

Second pic, I only find Huns once or twice a year and most of the time the covey is so small that I don't shoot. This year I ran into a covey that was probably 12 strong so I took one.

Great year for the pup, wish I could have got him out more and wish I would have shot better when I did!

The last 2 roosters of the year 😢

Sage's first solo hunt

And a couple quick walks after work when the days were getting short. Odin has been teaching his little sister the ropes but she is becoming a monster in her own right

Sturgil and I had a great fourth season together. Birds were plentiful, the miles were pleasant and save for one long shooting slump, our dog work was more than acceptable. Looking forward to September already!

We got off to a rough start. Old spots weren’t producing, new spots were a bust. We finally found some birds and my 2 year old pup was busting prettying much every covey. We went back to the training grounds for a couple mid season sessions and headed back to the chukar hills. Something clicked with the little guy and he was finding coveys and holding point. I even hit a few.

We’re back to training grounds and I can’t wait for October.

Are you really still hunting!? Man I'm jealous
Yeah the season in South Central AK for grouse and ptarmigan runs through 3/31, so we are done close to home. But... I've got a couple tentative plans to fly out one place and drive up to another to hunt some more before the end of April. If the new pup isn't big enough to handle the temps up north of Fairbanks by the end of April, we'll probably fly up to Nome or Kotzebue to chase birds before it closes there on 6/15. Gotta do what we can to shorten the off season! The August 10 opener can't get here soon enough
