Dang you guys kill some giants. Congrats to all.

Spent 17 days living like a hobo in a tent until I finally found one dumb enough to come into my calling. Got him on the 17th with a frontal shot at 18 yards. He made it less than 20 yards before tipping over.

Coastal Roosevelt elk here in Oregon shot on 9/11 after several days of fun hunting and close calls.

I located this bull about 7:30am, dropped a pin, and hiked up to where I thought he was. At 10:00ish I ripped a bugle when I thought I was close. Instant twig snaps. Then, I saw a tree getting raked about 50 yards uphill. A few seconds later, an elk barked, so I barked back. The bull walked down on me ASAP and gave me the first frontal shot I've ever taken. Shot was 26 yards and flat out devastating. He went 17 and piled up. Long steep pack out in the Oregon jungle.

Best part was I was using my wife's little Impreza all elk season since we needed to put some miles on it. Thanks, babe!

Returned from first elk hunt on 9/23. Had an incredible trip and hunt with my brother in the Bob Marshall Wilderness. I was fortunate to harvest the only bull in camp over a 6 day rifle hunt. Our guide scored him in camp at 339" gross. He was a dinosaur of an elk, and only had a handful of teeth remaining. One of his front bottom teeth actuall fell out while we were processing him. Probably didn't have too many if any seasons left. His ivories are worn down to nubs.

Shot was approximately 80 yards nearly straight down as he came in under the cliff edge we were calling from. The 175 grain Federal Terminal Ascent entry wound was perfect .30 caliber, and the exit wound smashed through a rib and opened up a 3-4" wide exit. The shot center punched the lungs and he went about 45 yards before collapsing.
