2025 OFFICIAL MEAT POLE THREAD

gave this guy the pass multiple times. thoughts? would you shoot him?
Depends on the tag/area/what else I’m seeing. Most units I’ve hunted, that’s a decent buck and I would probably be shooting.

“Took me 10 points and a 12 hour drive to get this tag.” I’m probably not shooting unless that’s the biggest buck I’ve seen after 7 days.

or 12 pts and 10 hours not too many places 12 hours here without leaving the state lol but exactly! Not too shabby for a PLO type tage round here

Good buck for sure. He seemed to be lacking age and mass in my opinion. For reference, it was a Colorado 4th season landowner tag, cost me 0 points and 0 dollars so easy for me to pass. Sadly the ‘highest scoring’ buck I saw in 6 days of hunting hard on about 8,000 acres of private land. But that’s the fun, never know what might show up. Ended up filling my tag on an older, heavy deer with bad genetics. Those young perfect 4pts are the ones we want around! Hopefully he’ll life long and prosper.

sounds like the ideal spot you got there, nice work my friend

Here is my humble contribution from my wife’s hunt in October. We had a babysitter for opening weekend, and spent the first 2 days backpacking. Got her on a nice 3 point opening morning but he seemed to be in early rut checking does in the timber and i couldn’t get her set up fast enough to get a shot off. Having our boy for the next days was a challenge, he’s too small to make it very far from the truck but we did our best and she was able to get some meat in the freezer. All in all I think I’m more grateful that he got to be there to watch mom kick ass.

IMG_5002.jpegIMG_5003.jpegIMG_6231.jpegAfter 19 years, I changed up my application strategy and was able to draw a Nevada deer tag (my first, as well as an antelope tag). I am not getting any younger and I see no reason to keep building points and not drawing. A buddy that lives in the unit tried to persuade me to return this tag, but it could be much longer before I drew anything else. Thank you Chris and Matt for grinding along for 8 days to find something respectable. I am extremely pleased with this beautiful buck and at 23.5” wide, he is my biggest mule deer to date. 6.5CM, Hornady ELDX 143 grain. 116 yards.
