Finally got my first ever turkey this morning! Public land, Colorado Merriam's. Called him in at 9am.

Get excited!

Got my first ever turkey on my second day of hunting ... ever! Based on his 2-inch beard and nubs for spurs, I'm guessing he's a "jake" -- but I'm a complete noob so what do I know. :) About 30 minutes north of Sandpoint Idaho, on state-owned land about 1/2 mile from my house. My Benelli Nova misfired twice, but the birds stayed put while I reloaded. Crazy! Story is here: Instagram

We can get 2 tags here in Idaho and I'm excited to get something a little bigger for #2. In the meantime, the breasts and legs are in the fridge with a nice brine. Going in the oven tomorrow night!

First turkey and first turkey on here taken in nv. Maybe I'll be able to draw this tag again in 10 years.

More tags and fun to come.

Friend from Alaska came down.
19.5 lbs
10.25 inch beard
1.25 inch spur. Other spur was broken off

First day of his first Turkey hunt.

Couple years ago he came down with his dad. First whitetail hunt with a bow.
First evening out he killed a deer.

Turkeys around here had been pretty quiet so far.
Early gobbles then henned up.
If you have the time the 11-1 time frame works right now.
This morning was awesome though.9-10 different birds.

11 year old daughter's bird from a couple weeks ago... two beards- main 5" beard and 1.5" secondary.

Not a trophy, but a trophy to her. She can't wait to go again... what more can I ask for from a very girly girl?
