180's vs 200's for a 300 WM??

I've shot 300 WM a lot and have never felt that there was anything to gain by shooting a lighter bullet. I've always preferred bullet weights 200 grain and heavier.

I recently purchased a 300 wm in anticipation of a combination (sheep, caribou, moose) hunt for 2018 and am also going through different ammo, trying to decide what my round is going to be. I have tried Interbond, SST, Accubond, Speer Hot Core, and TTSX in different grains. 49 rounds down the barrel so far and still have plenty more of the previously mentioned to shoot as I have only shot some out of each box. I realize 49 rounds is not much and my best accuracy is probably yet to come, but if I had to pick right now, based on groupings at 100 yds, it would be the 168gr TTSX. I have read from several sources that on the solid pills you can shoot a light for caliber weight and still have the intended expansion. (ie: if you normally shoot 200s, you could shoot a 180gr TTSX, etc.).

I will continue to repeat my experiments (comparisons of groupings) as I shoot through the rest of these rounds, and will post back here if the 168gr TTSX gets unseated.

according to the OP, he wanted to compare opinions and experiences between 180's and 200's

Indeed.... Tell us about your knowledge of Barnes TTSX. I'd love to learn from the expert.

used them quite a bit actually, like both the TSX and TTSX - why are getting testy after a comment that would be considered hijacking a thread ? I've had a case of "red ass" for it before, are you "special" ? TSX's come in 180 too, or did you know that ?

those federal trophy bonded tip seem to really be a good bullet. correct me if i'm wrong, but those are a tipped version of the Speer trophy bonded bear claw aren't they?

I believe they are. I've shot really small whitetail and much larger elk and never had them destroy more meat than expected, or had them pencil through.

Yeah feel free to post up your results with the ttsx, I dont mind. I shoot barnes out of one rifle here in california simply cause we will be required to shoot them everywhere in the next couple of years and they shoot pretty well. I dont care for their on game performance though, very little blood trail if they dont drop right there. With this 300 wm I am pretty much going to use it for out of state hunts so I want to stay away from barnes.

Roger that. Yeah, it sounds like high shoulder shots are the way to go with the Barnes.
