Would you guys have any real preference between these two, doing say 3300 FPS? Think the higher SD of the .277 version and more likelihood of an exit would be of any real difference?

S.D imo is a important factor after speed
We shot a large mature buck last week with a 140gr tsx .270wsm and it punched a huge exit hole and granaded the heart & lungs
130-140gr Barnes is optimal imo

I’ve loaded the 110gr ttsx in 270 and it’s a great combo for sub 400 yards. I’ve killed deer, antelope and pigs with it. Muzzle velocity is right around 3350 in the load I have with h4350. I don’t think you’d see any real difference between 270 and an 30/06. The likelihood of an exit is near 100%.

Cool, thank you!

If I go the 270 route, I'm going to try using Varget or IMR 4064 from Hornady data on their bullets, to look for 3300 FPS.

Was wondering if the shorter, fatter 30 cal 110gr might be a bit lacking in the penetration department, comparatively.

If you have H4350 I’d start there. Barnes has it as the suggested powder for that bullet in 270. Book COL at 57.5gr of H4350 is where I ended up.

I do have some! If it works, it works. That's good to know.

Was hoping to get away with 51gr of the others for the same result but I'll be happy to try both. The 30-06 would be using Barnes RL10x data

Thanks for the info and suggestion. Considering the expanded diameter would be the same and theres plenty of shank behind it, not really looking to go any heavier in the 270. With a mono I am not convinced it does any good.

This is right in my wheelhouse, exact loads and velocity you're talking about. I load the 110 TTSX in a 270 Winchester for one son, and the 130 TTSX in a 30-06 for the other son. Both have taken pronghorn and elk with those exact loads.

110 TTSX dead on the sternum of a trotting lead cow, heading straight at my son, 60 yards. She reared up, momentum carried her forward and snow plowed 3 feet in 24" of snow to a dead stop, literally. 3300 fps nominal MV. Found some holes exiting off to the side, which were probably the petals, never found the main bullet. RL19, extrapolated and worked up a load because I had some on hand I wanted to use.

130 TTSX broadside 90 yards cow elk, early morning at dawn. Scope fogged with his breath, had a hard time with sight picture. Hit high and broke the back at the neck juncture, dropped instantly. Finisher from standing back 5 yards or so. Exited into the dirt. 3300 fps nominal mv. IMR 4320, no longer available but still have a supply.

Do not need to go heavier, monos punch way above their weight. I shoot a 200 TTSX out of my 35 Whelen AI @2940 fps. It's a hammer on anything inside 400 yards from any angle.

Thanks!!

I've read your posts on the 270. Part of what made me want to try this in the first place! That and shooting through some whitetails and seeing good holes made by the 6.5mm 100gr at similar speeds.

The 130gr 30-06 load is very interesting. Would be using 3031 for that one. But that 110 is interesting too.

110 gr TTSX is getting on the light side for the .308 diameter in my opinion. Speaking from a sectional density standpoint, and it isn't as aerodynamic, sheds velocity pretty quick. Be good for deer out to whatever range it holds expansion velocity. On an elk, I would like more sectional density, as there comes a point in trying to get by with the least doesn't make sense to me.

Have 30 cal bullets in that weight range not done well for you? I know what you mean about how quickly it bleeds speed/energy compared to the .277" though, have been looking with the Hornady calculator

I've never used anything lighter than the 130 TTSX in the '06. The ballistics (130 TTSX vs 110 TTSX) are superior in every way within the ranges I would engage game.

For me, I don't compare one cartridge against another in the sense that I would choose or wouldn't choose a 110 TTSX in a 270 over a 110 TTSX in a 30-06. I go for the best bullet for each cartridge/caliber based on what is needed for bullet performance when it reaches the target. 110 TTSX from an '06 does nothing ballistically that the others don't do better.

My feeling is the 110 TTSX from a 270 and a 130 TTSX from an '06 to be ballistic twins and on game performance to be the same from experience. 400 yards is the longest shot I'd take on an animal with these loads, and have never had to go beyond that.

In my loading, the .270 Win has more speed in it if I went to a different powder. The '06 is at top speed when using 3350 fps MV in calculations. Earlier I said 3300 fps, I checked my notes and both of them are running around 3350.
