    Slow Velocities - Tikka 7mm-08

Could be a lot of things. I went to a 19” barrel and am getting 150fps below box velocity so your guess around 2650 wasn’t too far off. Maybe try a different lot of ammo, check the chrono against another one, and like previously stated, let the rifle break in if it’s new. Sent from my...

    Orvis Tech Pants

They are solid lightweight pants. The only thing I noticed with them is that they run long. I compared the inseam to a couple other brands of similar pants and the inseam was noticeable longer in the orvis.

How to end NR Wyoming wilderness ban?

I see the similarities but it's not quite an apples to apples comparison. The state has a right to manage game animals and can give tags to whomever they please. The state can determine the boundaries for which said tag is good for. Both WY and CO follow these doctrines. The difference is...

    Can we legalize suppressors now?

If anyone is thinking they are going to overturn the NFA the second week of January, you will be disappointed. We need to take a page from the other side's playbook and (incrementally) go after the low hanging fruit. Currently, that seems to be basically what is in the Hearing Protection Act...

    Wrangler Kids Pants

Just a heads up if anyone has been having a hard time finding solid pants for kids, Walmart (and Wrangler, I think) now has THE wrangler pants in kids sizes. I got a couple pair for my son and they are the exact same as the ones we all swear by. Last I looked they were ~$18.

Harvesting Fur and Feathers for Tying Flies

I'll add one more thing: if you come across stuff that you can't walk into your LFS and easily find, the juice is DEFINITELY worth the squeeze. Mandarin Duck, Golden Pheasant, Rhea, Jungle Cock, etc....along with a few that aren't techincally legal to import to the states (anyone planning a PB...

Harvesting Fur and Feathers for Tying Flies

Duck feathers are the easiest to use as flytying material. You want the banded flank feathers that sit on the body under the wing. Mallard and Teal are good black/white colors. Wood duck is great as it's a little bronze color. Wigeon is a nice chestnut color. Pheasant tails are east to grab...

    Sharpening Knives in the Field

I have always carried one of the small worksharp field sharpeners but may change that up. I've found that my new knife really only needs a leather strop, I may look for a compact strop to carry. But the knife seems to hold an edge well enough that I haven't needed to touch it up while doing an...

    Should I float my barrel?

Shoot a 10rd group from a similar rest as you would in the field. If you like it, leave it a alone. If not, start tweaking things. Start with action screws, scope rings, bases, etc. Then, decide if you want to go further. It's a deep dark rabbit hole. You're not going to hurt anything my...

How to end NR Wyoming wilderness ban?

This case went to the WY Supreme Court in 1986. Conviction upheld 3-2. https://law.justia.com/cases/wyoming/supreme-court/1986/121527.html Edit: I just read through the whole opinion. The justification for the affirmation is shaky at best. The dissenting opinion at the end basically blows the...

How to end NR Wyoming wilderness ban?

This is what the legal case would have to be based on. Can a state limit access to federally owned lands for the take of big game? Where it would get sticky is whether not limiting access factors into the take of big game? They could easily re-write the law and make separate unit designations...

How to end NR Wyoming wilderness ban?

The whole reciprocity thing seems like a good idea but has little teeth. I'm not sure it would do much. The path is probably the same as what the said podcast suggested. Somebody with access to a pile of legal fee money will need to be convicted of an offense and take it up with an appeals...

    Snack sticks without preservatives

As stated above the citric acid, is for the tangy flavor and used to mimic the flavors produced through fermentation. On the other hand, using celery powder/extract can be used in place of Cure #1, BUT, you are not replacing nitrates as celery is high in nitrates (hence it works as a cure)...

Rant - What happened to respect for other hunters???

With very few exceptions, I generally go out of my way to be cordial and pleasant, no matter the situation. I lean more towards the "more flies with honey" philosophy. I hate to keep bringing up duck hunting but I've had 10x more interactions with other hunters in the marsh than the woods: on...

    6mm 95gr Hornady SST Interlocks

Used the 139SST in 7mm this year on a cow elk and three antelope. We didn't necropsy the elk but there was a fair amount of internal damage from what we could see. We did take apart the three pronhorn, however, and the internal damage was extensive. Impact velocity ~2250fps. Lots of...

Rant - What happened to respect for other hunters???

After I read through this thread, I had the same thought I always have when I see a post like this: You ain't seen nothing 'til you've seen public land waterfowl hunting.
