Idaho NR general tag going to draw?

My initial email was a concern of a vendor purchasing for a list of family and friends and working with an outfitter. I was told that’s not possible and illegal but then they backtracked and basically said vendors could do what they want. I just wanted to make sure I wasn’t breaking any laws when I may or may not have coerced someone outside of their normal business hours to open for just me so I could print a bunch of DC tags.
IDFG does have a problem with responses and answers often varying from one employee to another, even when it comes to game regulations. I'd keep pressing on it if I had observed it.

“Very very rare” is far too much when it’s knocking people’s odds down who are trying to do right

It screams of a system that flawed.

I'm not denying that it happens, but what is "it"? If it's multiple proxy sales, yes, that is widespread. If it's outfitters buying, also yes, but it's little compared to DIY proxy sales. If it's a list, also somewhat common to mark honest positions in line. If it's purchasing for more than 5 people, you have to search for that in order to see it. All of this is honest and fair. However, if it's a prepaid and set priority sales list, it's very, very rare, and IDFG routinely requests for reports on it. It's also a miniscule number of vendors among the total across the state. It's easy to find a vendor where this doesn't happen.

I have bought tags for 5 guys more than once, for my party on capped tags and non residents.

Idaho’s capped and non resident system is a joke. Make it a draw, charge 8 bucks, then the parties who hunt together can apply together.

Also make elk weapon specific instead of a fuking story problem to see which seasons and with what you can hunt.

For anybody interested, we should know whether or not it's going to a draw in 2026 around 130pm tomorrow.

Its gonna happen. The document you posted says, "Staff recommend that the Commission direct the Department to move to a draw frame work for nonresident general season deer and elk tags, to be implemented for the 2026 license year." That is pretty much a done deal. Interesting to see how this affects tag availability. License vendors are gonna hate this.

It's just gonna depend on how the commission votes on it later today. We should know in a few hours.

Maybe the handful that allegedly make a profit. The rest will be glad to no longer have to deal with the campers and lines of people.

While everyone was in there they were buying drinks, picking up snacks, and buying stuff.
Very little, not even enough to cover the credit card fees for the license sales.

And then you have all of the declined credit cards and running of alternate cards, often several times before they get one that finally works, and if they can't get one that works, the tag has to be voided in the system. All of this happening repeatedly and in front of an impatient line of people.

We’re talking about 1 morning of snack sales?
I doubt the profit margin on snacks they are selling to tag buyers is all that much.

How many do you think a single vendor is selling to 50 people would be a big ass line, $10 of snack profit each
$500 bucks

I’m just not sure the $500 in snack profit one time a year is making or breaking the back for them.

It didn't sound like a sure bet to me.

Did anyone tune in on the zoom? Looks like they’ve moved on to something about salmon fishing..
Yes, they passed a motion for the department to draft a framework for a new system. The commission was very unsure of the ability to create and implement a viable system in time for 2026, and several commissioners asked about the ability to revert back to the current system should a new system fail.

Thank an influencer 👍 they did this. Remember you can’t hate them enough…. Hope their “pro discount” and boring YouTube videos was worth your hunting season…
They are to blame for plenty, but this one falls mostly on the loud and lazy people that don't want to put in the effort to get a tag.

I'm still of the opinion that it may not happen. I don't think they have IOGA on board yet.

I'm feeling 90% sure it won't happen in time for 2026.

Hopefully the whole thing fails to pass in the next meeting and gets shelved.
They are going to need to jump through some hoops to make the outfitters feel like they are whole. I definitely don't see it in time for 2026 . It might get fully approved and set on the shelves, to revisit at a much later date.

I sure hope it passes. My chances in a random can’t be any worse than the numbers the computer assigned me the last few years. Plus I’d like to be able to put in for hunts with my dad.
