I like the summit SSP as well. It will be perfect for your 8 x 32s. It's not great for a big spotter, but it's light weight and compact for backpacking.
I agree, after packing the big binos and spotter, I have found that I am just as effective with a pair of 10 x 42 SLC's and a good 65 mm spotter with half the weight.

I borrowed my father in law's Kaibab 20 x 56 for my Antelope tag last year. I can tell you that they have to be rock solid on a tripod to get anything out of them. I thought that the brightness was fine. The weight is the thing that kills this option for me.
