Question for Elk calibers

I would look for something bigger. You can pick up Ruger Americans pretty cheap and they are a great gun. I never want to be with a rifle that will only work if the hit is right and the shot it right. All it takes to mess things up is to have that bull take a step and the front leg come back...

Gear that failed to the point that the hunt was over?

Ripcord drop away rest. Cord stretched and the rest wouldnt drop. Seemed fine when you look at it. I always do a practice draw back in the stand just to loosen up the arms and when I did the rest didnt drop like normal. Has to leave a prime stand during the peak of the rut to drive 3 hours...

What's some gear you shouldn't need to get the top of the line?

This one is tougher for me to comment on. In some cases I totally agree and in others I do not at all. It all depends on if you put your tools to the hardest test or not. I get by with cheap optics hunting deer in Mn but if I look too long with cheaper optics my eyes get strained and tired...

Backcountry side arm

I carry a Umarex 1911 .45. It flat out cycles anything you put through it and has better accuracy than the Glock I had before it. Its thin and comfortable to carry.

I have a Savage Bear Hunter in 300 win Mag for my everything rifle. Great round with a lot of bullet options factory or reloaded, very accurate and with the brake on its very easy on the shoulder. I can shoot it all afternoon in a T-shirt. My son and I ran 80 rounds through it one afternoon...

Hippers, Waders...which ones?

I got a pair of the uninsulated waders from Banded and they are by far the most comfortable wader I have warn. I have hunted out of waders for nearly 35 years and these are the best I have tried.

Point of impact change with break

I have that on/off brake on my Savage 300 win mag. After I shot it with the brake on, I see no reason to ever shoot it with the brake off. There is so much less recoil and its enjoyable to shoot. My son and I shot 80 rounds through it in one afternoon and would have shot more if I had more...

Wyoming Saw 2

I had the regular Wyoming saw for years and lost it. I am looking at replacing it with the Saw 2 for the extra length. I really like it a lot and had no issues with mine at all. I have a Idaho saw now that is not near as good as the Wyoming.
