I am all for then letting people with a SEVERE disability use a rifle for all seasons but a lot of states are not. They would rather see them use a crossbow. This is pretty much a crossbow that is easier to load in my mind.
Guess I missed where he said November. I was thinking more early season since he was wanting to go ultralight, and the way his list was looking I really don't think he is prepared for a foot of snow overnight.
I tried a compressed log one time and it kept going most of the night after I dampened it down. Not full tilt but was putting off enough heat the keep the 8 man fairly warm. Stove was hot to the tough in the morning.
One major benefit to a cylinder is the length. You don't have to break wood down as much. This takes a ton of time and can be quite the task. Saying all that I run a titanium xl box from seek outside. Works great and can handle descent size twigs.
Have you considered a 308? I don't think you need a magnum at the range you are talking about. Ammo is easy to find as well. Another great option is a 30/06. Both will have plenty of velocity out to 500 for a good bullet to preform well.
Just out of curiosity why are you not considering the supertarp? Is it just going to be you or with a buddy? Do you move each night or once you pack in do you leave camp in one spot?
I think it would a good option for people with severe disabilities to get out during archery season. Other than that it should only be allowed during an any weapon season.
If you are not going to be hauling heavy loads why not just get a backpacking pack. They will be lighter, generally cheaper, and you can usually find a good selection at a local mountaineering store. Just food for thought. You don't need a hunting pack just because you are hunting.
Bring what YOU need. People can critique your list all day long but only you will know exactly what you need to bring through trial and error with days on the mountain.
Agreed. Too many people are concerned about the weight of a pack. We are hunters not thru hikers. We carry weights that most backpackers cringe at. A 20 lb pack that fits awesome is going to feel better while hiking around than a 15 lb pack that doesn't. Get a pack that is going to fit YOU and...
Through mid October @ 8k. If we were in Montana I would say bring it. I am good to around freezing without a puffy. I am also very warm blooded. If the puffy works better for you bring that and ditch the softshell.
Thinking about getting my 5 year old a savage rascal. He currently shoots a 10/22 but it is a little big for him. Has anyone shot one? Probably going to put a leupold 4x28 rim fire scope on to keep weight down.
Basically want a good small lightweight squirrel and rabbit gun and I'm open to all...
