Barnes says the 127LRX is reliable down to 1600 fps. We've been using it out of CMs, that start them barely faster than 2600 fps. Performance has been uniformly excellent from moose to deer.
Ditto on PRF. They’ve imported several scopes and rifles for me and buddies. Excellent service every time. Which is more than I can say for some of the other importers I’ve used.
It helps with per unit costs if you can get some buddies in on a group buy!
Same here. I’m not a super serious PRS/NRL competitor, but really enjoy the (sometimes humiliating) challenge and learning of competing, and try to shoot 2-4 club matches a year, and 1-2 ‘national’ level (western Canadian) matches annually. Most of the guys I compete with, who are hunters, are...
We had to clean someone's cache up this year. 16k back in the mountains. A bear had torn it to shreds and scattered it. Freeze dried packages, a bunch of fuel cans, tools, tarps and other supplies. They had left the cache tied high in a tree. Hard to say if a bear climbed and tore it down, or if...
6.5CM
147ELD
470 M uphill shot.
4x5 bull. Bullet performed well. It’s been great for us at CM/260 velocities. Hit bone, but exited. Didn’t get many pictures, as the light was fading fast and we had some work ahead of us.
I started into PRS with a M700 243. The problem with Tikka 6mm is their RoT, or I'd definitely gone that way. The 243 worked ok, but I wasn't sad when the barrel was burnt out. Been shooting 6CM for the last couple of years, and it's been good. Many guys are using smaller capacity 6BR...
The OP links to the Toyo ATII. It isn't the latest AT from Toyo, but was a good tire. The current TOYO ATIII is a fantastic tire, IME/O. Better in snow, mud and on wet roads.
Depends on the situation. But all of the above.
I could not agree more. And admittedly, I was one who got into horses for the wrong reason. Over time that changed and they came to absolutely fascinate me. Understanding them, working with them, just being in the hills with them. But I don't...
Yeah. More Fudd myth. 😉
I've seen elk soak up multiple rounds from 300WM and 338WM. Alternatively, collapse from one round of 7/08 or 6.5CM. A bad shot is a bad shot. Period. A bigger boom doesn't make up for a miss (a poor hit is a miss) and, IME, there is surprisingly little difference...
The 3o-o6 did most of my killing for well over 10 years. Multiple Mule Deer, Whitetail, Elk, Black Bear, etc.
I've been using a 6.5 for the last 5 years. Same cross section of critters, with a bull moose added. It has worked just as well. As mentioned, it's pretty much impossible to tell the...
A surveyor acquaintance of mine just had his '08 Tundra 5.7 written off. T-boned. It had over 700k on it, with all its original major mechanical components.
My '16 has been a good truck, but is only at 100k. It averages 17-18 highway, with E-rated 33" TOYO AT3s and a cap on it. Usually loaded...
In a LR/general purpose hunting scope, a well designed reticle is more important than mag range or big Xs. IMO. Gimme a 3-12 with a bold, usable reticle.
Sounds like it’ll be a great rig! Pics when you get it done please. :)
Everybody has their own weight/cost/performance analysis to do, when it comes to setting up their rifle. My preferred scopes weigh around 24-25 ounces, which pushes this rifle over 6.5 quite quickly.
Bare rifle w/ magazine is 5 pounds 5 ounces. I was hoping to make 5.5 pounds, so it came in 3 ounces under.
My preferred scope is fairly heavy, so scope in Sportsmatch rings should come to almost exactly 7 pounds.
