im shopping for a new scope and the viper pst is one i have been looking into. i am curious how much of the magnification is usable. ie on the 4-16 is it still crisp at 16? same question on the 6-24.
thanks for insight from real world usage.
YK, thanks for posting skurka's list. i thought that was very interesting. i had no idea he even hunted?
i was very surprised to see him still running an alc'y stove. that right there, is in my mind, a great example of how lightweight hunting and backpacking differ.
charvey, i also agree with...
i think i tip toe back and fourth with this. i try to buy the lightest, of each item necessary, and obsess about weight maybe more than is healthy, but at the end, i find to get truly UL, the mission becomes compromised. im not willing to have to seek a sheltered camp cus my shelter is 6oz. or...
does anyone keep notes or past years gear lists?
i do and just recently was looking back through some. i found it damn funny, my 3 day pack back in august of 2012 weighed like 2lbs more than my pack did for 9 days last year archery elk in CO.
anyone else have clothes they wish were on the market? stuff that would be a hot seller, if it was offered. or something that theres a niche for, yet no one seems interested..
for me, i have quite a few items, that im hoping someone jumps on. i wish i had the cell number to some high ups in the...
a recent thread got me thinking and a little curious, about how the rest of this "community" feels.
do you hike at night?
no.
a little ways back to camp.
if necessary.
its my favorite way to cover big chunks of ground efficiently.
of these, or maybe your own, what camp would you put...
if you guys do need to use a creek to cool the meat, be diligent in removing it from the garbage or dry bags to keep it dry. it will condensate in there, especially as its first cooling. take advantage of the cold overnight temps to dry the meat. during the day a guy can get pretty creative if...
if it takes 5 trips to get a bull and camp out, its probably a fact that you have no business hunting there.
i dont know what sort of standards the OP has for animals but i would venture the likelihood of killing a 330 bull in an area he hadnt previously set foot in is on the lower end of odds...
the blowdown sounds the worst to me. i dont have a habit of hunting burns for elk, but have crossed old avalanches and thats a bitch. ive hunted 6-12,500', 1k ft/.5mi kind of steep. on trail/ off trail. etc
is there trail most of the way? what do you expect nightime temps to be. how big are you?
maybe im foolish or just against the grain, but i wouldnt immediately say no. in the country i typically hunt, if it took me 8-12 miles to get into elk i would be ok with it. especially if camp was on the...
maybe this needs to be its own thread but i dont understand the affinity with wool midlayers. theyre heavier, take longer to dry, typically not as warm (ie loft). are you guys getting so sweaty with midlayers on that theyre getting foul and thats the highlight?
in my limited experience the high country in october, riding out storms outweighs time spent hunting. can be very difficult to glass, but some people know how to get it done like that.
