Zipties, a MUST HAVE in the pack

Forgot to mention in original post that if you cut the tail off, make sure you cut it flush, or they can be razor sharp. Inadvertently sliding your arm over them can be dangerous. I'll post a couple pictures on how to use another tie to twist them off flush.

Here is how to use another ty-rap to twist the tail off flush so that it is not sharp. First, tighten the original strap. Then slide another one down tight to it.

Start twisting the extra ty-rap.

Usually 2 full rotations will due.

Makes a flush finish that is not sharp.

You guys ever use Mule tape for rope in your pack? Got a few lineman buddies who get it to me for free... stuff is stronger than crap and very lightweight as well.

Mike
I have a spool of the smaller stuff from a commercial electrician 250lb test i think - stuff is great. Weighs almost nothing and packs down way smaller than 550. Can be a pain to untie and any tension on the line and you are almost guaranteed t o get a rope burn.

Will have to check into it with my lineman buddies. They've never mentioned it before. Maybe it also goes by another name?

I always carry mule tape in my pack, usually 50-60 ft of 1200lb. Its light and I get it for free, it's good stuff.
