I have a kimber subalpine.280 AI with Swarovski Z3 3-10x42, Talley LW rings. Factory 140 e-tips. It shoots below moa and just feels good shooting. I also have a similar set up kimber 7mm-08 that is also great, but just doesn’t feel as good to me. I actually shoot the .280 AI good free hand which is tough with light rifles.

I have and all group good enough, around 1” @100 give or take based on me. The e-tips seem very forgiving and consistently group great.

All this talk about 280’s and 338-06’s got me thinking . . . if only there was something in the middle.

Ha !! I've hunted with 300 win mag a bunch on and off too, nothing to cry about with that cartridge BUT I just don't "love" the short necks on it and the 7mm rem mag, I handload exclusively - the short necks can and do supply outstanding accuracy, but they also lend to earlier throat erosion, my two perfect cartridges would be:
7mm Weatherby & 338 win mag (getting tired of recoil as I get longer in the tooth hence the wandering away from that one, 338 win mag is the perfect elk rifle IMO)

That is a beautiful 8x57R. The cartridge is similar to our .338 Federal.

After reading Elmer Keith's articles with his opinion of the "needle-blowers", it is easy to subscribe to his .33 caliber leaning. After all, he did like the .270 as well, and called it a fine coyote rifle.

Mesa precision 300 win mag sending 215 grain Berger hybrids for long work. My backup /beater or for short distance is a flimsy pre-accustock savage 111 in 30-06 with an upgraded trigger. That savage is the cheapest gun I’ve ever bought at $125 off of a buddy years ago but it’s harvested more game for me than everything else I have combined.

Can I play?...other side of the planet I know, but we have some big deer here that get up to small elk size. And if I ever get over there for an elk rifle hunt this is the gun I'd bring anyway. After an armoury worth of customs and LW's this little unit gets the job done keeping the freezer stocked.

If I had to choose/create only one:

300 WSM on a medium or tikka t3 length action, throated to seat Berger 215s ideally.

24” carbon barrel. Carbon primarily to hit desired weight goal and and have enough meat for 5/8x24 muzzle threads.

Gunwerks Clymr stock or similar. Design shall include negative comb, vertical’ish grip that is the proper distance from the trigger (close enough), and pretty trim in dimensions so it is not clunky to hand carry around the mountains.

Flush fitting detachable magazine with either a trigger guard mag release (seekins style) or xbolt/tikka style mag release.

Terminator, Christensen slayer, or MbM titanium muzzle brake.

Bare rifle weight 6.75-7 lbs.

If I'm reloading, 6.5-280ai running the berger 156gr. Should be able to push them over 3k with a 25" tube. Wearing a ziess v6 3-18×50.
