Stid,

How do you like that Sako, it looks nice. How heavy is it.
I have been looking at a .375 H&H rifle.

Great rifle, action and trigger smooth as glass, sub moa, do have to make sure to clean and oil it around the salt water. very close to 9 lbs the way mine is setup. Mine is a little lighter because it is in a McMillian stock instead of the laminated factory stock.

The 375H&H is a hammer, and fairly flat shooting for a large caliber I have made shots on Blacktails out to 300 yards with that rifle.

Luke and Becca we for sure need to hit Kodiak for a couples HEAVY camping deer hunt. :)

Hi Cross,
I really like the rifle and caliber. The recoil is tolerable, it's more of a big slow push (like a shotgun with a heavy load)than the sharp jab some of the magnum calibers produce.I'm in California, with the lead ban I use the 250gr TTSX which works well and probably helps cut down some of the recoil. It sounds like your sitting on the fence about getting one..I did that too, your friends will tease you about being the only one ready if the elephants escape the zoo.. but I'm really glad I got mine..bet you will be too...

X-bolt stainless synthetic in 7mm wsm with a 3-9x50 leupy right now. Love the gun. Whatever I have pointed at hit the dirt quick. Have a forbes in 7-08 on order that will wear either a 3-9x33 or 3-9x40 leupy. Will shave over 2 pounds off the old rig.

Gentleman thanks for the replies, I am on the fence with this caliber. When I saw that you two actually had real hunting experience with this caliber in a bolt action rifle I had to jump at the chance to ask your opinions.

Thanks Cross

Tikka 7mm Superlite, added the muzzle brake Cuz I hate recoil, fluted the bolt and put the B&C stock on it and cerakoted it Titanium so the brake would blend in better and I like the looks!, bare rifle weighs 6.5 pounds, kinda ruin it though with the heavy Nightforce, think I'm going to order one of the Manner EHT-Tikka stock soon, that would take about 10oz off of it. The gun is one of the best shooting guns I've owned!

No pictures yet because I just sent my Model 70 off for a lilja 7mm 3 groove 9 twist #4 with 6 flutes . When it gets back it's going in for a melonite treatment. I'll post some pictures as soon as it's back and bedded. Mailed it an hour ago and I'm so stoked ! Maybe a Manners EH4 if I can swing it .

spdrman,

What brake did you put on the tikka? I'd like to get a new Tikka 7mag, but worried about the recoil without a brake... May get it in 270 because I'm a wimp. But would like the extra power of a 7mag.

Haha Im debating on getting a 270 cuz the brake is ruining my hearing!! Its a custom one a guy made, told him I wanted 4 side ports with 3 ports up top to tame the jump turned out just how I imagined, I shot it 3 times before I sent it off to get a Brake, buddy has same gun and put a Limbsaver pad on, thats a huge difference over the factory one

Cross, go for it. They are a lot of fun to shoot. If you handload, you can plink with 235 or 250gr loads all day long. Things get interesting when you jump to 270gr or 300gr.

I use an Interarms Whitworth Express in 375 H&H, killed a cow elk with it.

Kimber Montana in .300WSM, should have killed a cow with it but I screwed up my chance at a shot.

Marlin 1895 45/70, same status as the Kimber.

Someone asked about porting/muzzlebrakes. They are very effective in reducing recoil. I have an old Savage 110 in 300 winmag, synthetic stock that is ported and it kicks like a .308. However, do NOT let anyone stand to the side of you and be aware of your surroundings when shooting it. You can seriously screw up your hearing. I don't use that rifle for this very reason and down the road it's slated for a bull barrel project.

I have the same gun as you and have ordered the same gun at you too. lol. I bought a VX3 2.5-8 and had the CDS turret put on it.
I hope the Forbes comes soon.

Marlin 1895 SBL with a skinner tactical peep. Makes me get close but sure feels a lot more reassuring with a tube full of 430gr hardcast when I'm busting through alders loaded with grizzly scat.
