Sweet. Another photo contest. What's the prize? If I would have known, I would have taken more photos of my rifle that last few years!

A little over two years ago I switched from my Ruger to a Tikka 30-06 with a Zeiss Conquest RZ-600. It's been a solid gun and I find the closed top action is great for keeping things functioning on the winter hunts I like to do. It's less of a "mountain rifle" and more of a fairly light, general purpose, do what needs done, rifle. Between my hunts, a quick loan to a friend, and a mop up job or two it's accounted for more than a dozen animals so far ranging from ptarmigan to grizzly.

Why do people put on muzzle breaks, is it just so there is less recoil? Do these guns really kick to hard without them?

Bought my Tikka 7mm in 2003, put a Leupold 3x9 on it and sent it to the custom shop once for some upgrades. Have beat the shit out of it and it has never let me down:)

Very nice gun! What custom things did you have done to it?

G1 Remington Ti in 30-06. I have the big brother in 300WM as well. To answer why a muzzle brake is to lesson felt recoil. They work but too dang loud. Lightweight rifles kick pretty good and require different techniques on the bench to shoot well.

I'm looking at a Browning X Bolt 300 win mag synthetic stock and stainless steel barrel for elk hunting and big game. Does anyone use one of these or have any suggestions?

Hmm I didn't know bout these contests;). Gotta start puttin a rifle in my pics..

I've carried both of these in the mountains. A 300weatherby and a 416 weatherby. Actually took a goat a few years back with the 416.. I should be sporting a new mountain rifle this year..

HAHA I know right. That grizzly was the first animal I took a pic with my rifle with that I can ever remember. Its more of just a tool like anything else, I cause I better start posing with my binoculars, spotting scope, pack, and boots too ;)

And make sure the Under Armor logo is easily visible. Sponsors love that.

I know, I was trying to think if I have ever taken a photo of my rifle with an animal and I am drawing a blank. There are however lots of pics of me packing it places.... It sees a lot more time in the gunslinger than it does trigger time for certain :)

Here is one with your MASSIVE moose. :) If your stock had a notch for each animal it has taken it would look like a tooth pick :)

I was bear hunting in the mountains when I took the pic, so I guess she's my mountain rifle.
She's a little chunky, but so am I. At about 9# as she sits in the picture she's what some folks might call her a "big girl". I call her "Zena".
Compared to the 480 Ruger I pack for most hunts she's a long range wonder, even with those 420gr flat nosed slugs. She's always got my back!
450 Marlin, 1.75x Burris Scout Scope, Warne QD rings, XS Scout base, XS ghost ring peep, DRC lever, trigger, follower. 420 hardcast bullets loaded at about 1950fps. All around a very practical rifle for most of the country I hunt.

For an "above timberline(alder line)" rifle I have an old pre '64 featherweight 270 of my father-in-laws that I am upgrading.
Also have a custom Norma .358 mag on a commercial Mauser action that I started to redo a few years ago & lost interest. 11#!!! I have a composite stock to replace the huge Fagen birdseye maple stock that's on it, & may trim her down in other ways & make that the all around gun one of these days, but she will never be a true light "mountain rifle".

Wood stocked Ruger M77 in .300 win mag with 2-7 Redfield scope. It is my: Truck gun, Horse gun, and Backpack gun

It has killed everything from Fox, to Blacktail deer, to Wild hogs, to Antelope, to Mule deer, to Elk.

If it is too heavy, I need to be in better shape. If it is to far to aim accurately, I need to get closer. If it is "too-much gun" I need to stay away from the shoulder (still working on that).

I sleep well knowing that I have over 20 years of experience with this rifle and it will do its part if I do mine.

Leupold has a custom shop, so in place of buying a new scope I sent mine in and had crosshairs changed to the LR Duplex. They take information on your bullet and other specs which allowed me to have the scope dialed in for my local range with a 220 zero and then each dot out to 550 I can hold on with. I also added an etched elk head into the bell of the scope. Fees are minimal and the turnaround was very quick.

Now now Miss Becca..I would venture to say you are a very accomplished hunter and your successes are good or better as anyone's .... Well except for maybe that Stid guy.. But there's just something wrong with him ... Hehehehe;).
