I pretty much wiped out big jims when they discounted the centershots. That ilf rig shoots them SOOOOOO well.

My tomahawk and longer whip live for woodies. The woods master is the Whistler. I've killed a lot of stuff with that Whistler and it's my favorite to carry. I had to shoot the Ilf rig last year due to a shoulder injury. Wierd how I can't shoot a low wrist pain free but could shoot the heavier (58#) ilf rig.

Those Whistlers are pretty short…whats your DL Wrench?

Cool looking bows…that and his Chinook, I’ve been dying to try one of those…or a Shrew…but never run into a lefty that has one.

I'm 29.75-30" and the 58" Whistler takes it like a champ. I asked Dan if I should go longer and he said no need....he was right.

This is the 51#, 535g setup, Axis 340’s cut 31 1/4”, 75g insert,125g point. The couple Beman Centershots are 534- one gr less. It bareshafts great.

I’m digging these 3“ shield cut feathers from Amazon, they fly awesome. I refletched some arrows so these hit my nose perfect at FD as a second anchor. A bit high profile, taller than parabolic 4”.

Bear in mind, This is really my first full round of shooting this exact setup. This is one arrow each at distances from 15-35- not bad- and smooth.

I was hoping for a lighter arrow right at 490-500g for the better trajectory but until I get my heavier limbs, I will go with this.

Just shoot me if I’m still experimenting in August…..grin

Since they are not making the Trad Axis anymore you could switch to the black axis and probably shave about 20 grains.

Yeah, good suggestion. I Iike the 5mm…but with these trad bows…it really isn’t a big advantage like in a Compound

I have some Accmos 340’s that are almost 3 gpi less..at almost 1/3rd the cost…I might go with those once I stop fiddling.

I have always shot this bow without a bow quiver and used wood arrows. A couple days ago I decided to set it up with a bow quiver, carbon arrows and began the tuning process. Almost there with the tuning with a 25 yard PO. No reason why this can’t be my primary this year.

Wood arrows Are a lot of work! I still have about 3 dozen unfinished Doug Firs that will eventually get rotated back in.

You need to rig up another stone point on a carbon shaft for that rig.

I think this is “The One”
First arrow with this bow is money, tuned good. 19” Dryad riser Selengha limbs (longs) 64”bow, 508g arrow


Its lighter by about a pound over the Stalker riser. I do lose a few arrows right if I don’t have a strong follow-through with this lighter riser ( Im a lefty) , but nice to carry in the woods.

I was hoping for arrows right around 490 to pick up just a little bit better trajectory but it’s going to be a lot of work to hit that number. I could get it ti tune at 440g, but I think I’ll stay right here, it’s super quiet.
Edit; currently dialing in my gaps at different distances. Funny, this 51#/508g isn’t much different gap wise from my 46#/553g and my PO is right about the same,45y.

It shoots faster for sure… the biggest gap difference is at the midpoint which makes sense, 22y where my lighter phone was about 1 inch and this one is about 3/4”.
I don’t shoot directly off the gap, I set the gap in my peripheral vision when drawing and then focus on the spot so it’s either split vision or gap-stinctive if that I shoot.

Time to dial in my yardages and take it pig and turkey hunting.

You need to rig up another stone point on a carbon shaft for that rig.

I’ll have big wide snuffers on my arrows next week in Texas.

Big snuffers will work. Better make sure you have a big bag of them flippin craws too.

The Contender;
Same 51# bow but the Axis trad 340’s it likes best are 507g, with the 75g insert and 100g point. Gpi on these is 10.3.

I ordered some of the Accmos 350’s 6.2mm at 7.94gpi. I did not tune it perfectly but it’s close with a 50 grain insert and a 125 grain Field point it’s 432g-75g lighter than the other arrow.
Here I shot 3 of the 507g at 20y using a 3/4” gap ….and shot the 432g black shaft using a 3/8” gap.
Dang that speed cut my gap in half at 20y- what a huge difference.

The lighter arrow is a tiny bit noisy here, but not what I would call noisy.


I’m sure the high FOC guys would be slobbering on this thin wall light gpi arrow but I’ve had problems with those weak arrows over the years in hunting and 3d.
Not at all durable…they can have them.

I think I’m going to stick with the Axis even though they are a heck of a lot more money. The black axis shafts GLB suggested would probably give me the perfect medium…. but now I’m leaning towards this 507g arrow. It’s almost exactly 10 GPP.

And yes, i finally broke down and ordered a new cover for my Morel target, those are cheap. I should have done it a year ago.
