Nothing like a R700 in .243 for a first rifle! Rebarreled with a CF .260rem barrel down the road. Got a hankering for handloading and accuracy but still have the feel of my first deer gun.

Single shot Winchester 20 gauge. Not a rifle and not a good aiming system with just a bead. My first decent deer gun was an old style Ruger m77 in 6mm Rem.

My first deer gun was a Mossberg 500 in 20 gauge. Shot a few with it and passed it on to my brother who also killed his first couple with it. At the time in Indiana shotguns were the only option. I’m glad the state finally came to its senses and opened up center fire rifles.

I was 18 (1989) and bought a savage 270 from wal-mart prolly a 110 model, I hated that thing, it was accurate but it would knock the plaque off your teeth every time you pulled the trigger

I was cleaning up my gunroom this weekend and found an old 7mm RUM in a box. I took this picture of every caliber I have killed a deer with. It just makes me laugh at my overconfidence and ignorance as a teenager. Picking the 7RUM to shoot whitetails out of a box blind between 35 and 250 yds. Sighting that rifle in with a buddy had both of us flinching, hurting and wishing we had not gone to the range.

The little Grendel on the end has killed them just as dead at those ranges .

My fist deer rifle was given to me by my dad when I was 9 years old. It was a Winchester Model 70 featherweight chambered in 7x57 with a Leupold 3-9 on it. Dad took the stock and cut 1” off of it to make it fit me better. Hunted with it for years and killed probably 20 deer with it. He loaded up Nosler 120gr ballistic tip and loaded them light. They were devastating!
