Your first deer rifle?

Wby 300 um / no mb with a Nikon that probably was broken inside. That Mark V was pretty though.....😆. Worked myself down the power curve very fast. Landed on a 270 for many years once I recovered from that first concussion (kidding).

7x75 Mauser WW2 vintage. That thing was so heavy. My Dad cut off several inches of the barrel, the end of the barrel looked as thick as a nickel is wide. (thick to take the heat of constant firing in war) I think I was 10 years old. When I was 12 or 13 I got a new Interarms Mark X Mauser in 30.06. I still have both.

My first deer rifle was a Rem 700 BDL 30-06 my dad gave me for my birthday when I was 12 or 13. I killed a lot of deer with and still have it although at that age i preferred to use his Marlin 336 30-30 that I started out on. I mostly use a .223 or .243 these days for deer.

Ruger M77 tang safety when I was 12...shot a nice 5x5 on the run that fall with it. Currently still in the safe in a Mcmillan rebarreled to 6 creed. My oldest will have it some day.

Winchester model 70 in .270 when I was 12. Took many deer with that rifle. I had to sell it in order to pay for an emergency vet bill for the doggo in my early 20’s. Then bought another one in my mid 30’s.

Savage Model 11 in .243 Winchester. Took my first deer with this rifle in 2012 before I began hunting with old WW2 and earlier military rifles until I got a modern 30-06 rifle.

Mossberg 500 pump 12 gauge was my first hunting gun...killed lots of white tail with that gun.

First rifle was a Marlin 30-30, my favorite east coast deer rifle for sure!

Oh... like many hunters here my first deer rifle was a Mauser 98 in 8x57 that a gunsmith sporterized for me. New Lothar barrel, turned and shortened, fiberoptic front and rear sights, Timney trigger, old Swarovski 6x42 on DIY picatinny bases and a crappy wooden stock... as it should be!

742 Woodsmaster 30-06, Minnesota whitetail when I was 16. It was my dad's gun, the first deer rifle I boght new was a Remington Model 600 Mohawk in .308. It was a great northwoods deer rifle with a K-4 Weaver on top.

Remington Model 600 in 308 bought new for $ 90 during the 1960s. Still a great shooting rifle although the recoil is a little harsh.

Had a 600 in 350 rem mag with the ventb rib, that one flat out hurt, shot one box of shells through it and sold it, they were great quick handling rifles in the right caliber!
