Your first deer rifle?

Hoping to secure tags for my first deer season. Better late than never, right? If all goes well, I'll be using a Browning XBolt Max SPR in 6.5CM topped with a VX3HD 3.5-10x50 and SiCo 46M can in chode mode.

Happy to confirm this is in fact my first deer rifle. Didn't get a trophy by any means, but I got meat in the freezer for the first time in my life, the evening before I turned 38. 🙂

My first deer rifle was a Marlin 30-30 and I added a Simmons Whitetail scope to it. Bought it for $170.00. It was the first firearm purchase when I turned 18. Still a go-to gun depending where I'm hunting.

Remington Model 700 Mountain Rifle in 280 Remington. I worked by ass off as a teen to get it in 1995. It is still my main rifle. It has killed the shit out of everything it has ever shot. Zero need to change.

Got to pick whatever I wanted for my 12th birthday, and at the time, that was a Remington 700 Mountain in 270 Win with a walnut stock. Put a small gouge in the fore end one of the first times I hunted with it, and I'm sure my dad wanted to skin me. Killed a pile of deer with it and moved on to other things, but I grabbed it out of the safe for nostalgia's sake a couple years ago and killed a great buck.

Can't wait to give my sons the same opportunity when they're old enough, although it's a little sad that Remington probably won't be on the menu at that point.
Guns are to be used. Scratch em, beat em, and send it!

Remington 700 in 300wm. Way too much for a 14yr old. Dad bought it for me for an elk hunt. Kill a lot of deer with it and would trust it over some custom builds I have. Had a 3-9 leupold on it for years. I put a nightforce on it a few years ago and found out it is capable of 600yd plus shots. Dad said he paid 250 bucks for it with the scope. Will never part with it

When I was 12 my dad gave me his .222 for whitetail in South Dakota, the next year they changed minimum caliber requirements and he got me a 243 Winchester 670. I never did shoot a deer with the 222, but saw my old man take some down with that rifle.

Loaded question! LOL!
Dad used a Marlin 336 SC .30-30
Grampa used a Marlin 336 RC .30-30.
Killed my first deer with Grampa's gun!

Since I was old enough to read and "understand" Jack O'Connor in the magazines at the barber shop, I had wanted a bolt .270 Win.
Guy wanted my Ruger .41 Rem Mag "Blackhawk" and swapped me even up for a Parker-Hale .270 Win!

SOOO....... killed my first deer with a borrowed Marlin .30-30, but the first gun I "owned" was my beloved .270 Win!

NOTE: The Parker-Hale is basically an English sporterized FN Mauser and imported by Dana Imports.

Everyone has great stories in regards to their first and the heirloom aspects to it. My version is a little different. As a kid my great uncle kept telling me he was going to take me deer hunting when I was old enough and if I liked it the lever action propped by his front door would be mine afterwards. Sadly when he got sick we never made it and when he passed the old lever action managed to disappear during the wake. Fast forward 30 years(technically 31?) I was in a fly/gun shop and there was a brand new marlin 1894c being unboxed and put on the shelf. It had to leave the store with me... several months of feeling like a cowboy and looking at the internet have resulted in a local gun smith chopping it in half so it fits in my pack. After 5 years of stalking through the hills of WV I am actually hoping that this is my last year for it with it being passed down to my son for next year.View attachment 957893View attachment 957894
