Your first deer rifle?

7mm08 Weatherby Vanguard

My family is only into shotguns... boring! Although it would have been amazing to have one passed down, I felt it was pretty cool to save up for my first rifle... Great caliber for a TX critter gun
7mm08 is a fantastic deer cartridge and the vanguard it known to be pretty good. Could easily be a forever rifle to hand down.

Yessir. I don't plan to part with it. Only update I've made is replacing the factory trigger with a Timney vangaurd drop in. Seems to work well.

Hoping to secure tags for my first deer season. Better late than never, right? If all goes well, I'll be using a Browning XBolt Max SPR in 6.5CM topped with a VX3HD 3.5-10x50 and SiCo 46M can in chode mode.

Congrats man! Nice looking setup. Is that a Spartan bipod adapter on there as well?

My first one was a Marlin 336 in .30-30 many years ago. Sadly I sold it to fund another gun as a kid, but since then I've picked up a couple more of them to fill that niche.

My dad gave me a German made .240 Weatherby when I was 13 (in 1979) for Christmas. I still have it and still hunt with it. I've killed loads of stuff with it through the years - mule deer, whitetail, aoudad, pronghorn, axis, blackbuck, pigs, coyotes, bobcat, fox, and probably a few other critters I can't recall off the top of my head. I'll never sell that gun. I'll pass it down to my son one of these days when I'm gone or too old to shoot it anymore.

My dad got me a Remington 700 BDL in 243 Winchester with a Redfield 3-9x40 from a gun show when I was 10. Incredibly accurate and fun rifle that will never be sold.

First deer rifle was a single-shot H&R handi in .243

First deer was with a 700 in .270

Now depending on the hunt:

Tikka SL in 7mm RM
18" Sig Cross Sawtooth in 6.5 Manbun
18" 6 ARC that I built.

Used Remington woodsmaster 742 in .30 06 like many here! Got it for Christmas 1984 when was 10 yo. Shot a ton of whitetails and a couple mulies before I needed to upgrade. It shot nice at 100 yds but was all over the place at 200... cleaned the barrel of copper but it just wouldn't perform. I saw my first huge buck a few days before the 2013 CO 3rd rifle season as was worried as hell the whole time what might happen if I turned him up at 200 yds... never saw him again but upgraded the next year to Ruger American .30 06. Very light and accurate gun. I handed over the 742 to my brother in FL. If he ever goes hunting it will be enough for him.
