Your first deer rifle?

Mossberg maverick 243 its a discontinued model not to be confused with the shotgun. Took several deer as a kid before stepping up to a 30 cal

My dad bought me a Remington 700 ADL .270 from the New Ulm Rod and Gun club in 1978 for $165. Barrel has been shot out so it’s turning into a .280 AI.

Marlin lever action 30-30 that my dad traded his buddy a 20 gauge for. Killed my first several deer and my first bull elk with it before buying my own kick-like-a-mule, no recoil pad Savage model 110 30-06 at about age 15. That savage is long gone but the 30-30 will forever have a place in the gun safe and I pull it out to go on a hunt for nostalgia reasons once every few years.

Remington 700 SPS Stainless in 30-06. I still hunt with it today 16 years later, but I've changed the stock twice, put a new trigger on it, and rebarreled it. So, it's not really the same rifle. Shoots a whole hell of a lot better though.

Remington 700 adl chambered in .243win. My dad bought it for me when I was 9yrs old and I killed my first deer with it that same season. Since then my wife and two oldest kids all killed their first deer with that same rifle and it's currently the rifle my daughter hunts with. A lot of good memories linked to that rifle.

What was your very first deer rifle?

Mine was a mossberg 500 410ga with a smooth bore barrel and iron sights. It’s a great grouse gun but not a deer killer. 2 minute of deer isn’t really good for me.

My very first rifle was handed down to me from my grandfather, which was a Win 94 in 30WCF. Up until me receiving this rifle I’d been hunting 8-9years and had only shot a fawn. Within 3 days of owning it I shot two bucks.

I love that rifle but it’s become more of a safe queen these days. I’ve come up spicy load using the Hornady 140gr Monoflex and leverevolution that I’d like to try one of these days.
Like so many others I started with dads old 30-30 when hunting up north in Michigan. First one I bought was a 12 ga mossberg bolt action slug gun because we lived in the shotgun zone. I wish the straight wall rifle cartridges were legal back then. Less recoil and cheaper ammo

7mm08 Weatherby Vanguard

My family is only into shotguns... boring! Although it would have been amazing to have one passed down, I felt it was pretty cool to save up for my first rifle... Great caliber for a TX critter gun
