YOUR favorite all purpose jacket

I’ve owned the gen 1 jetstream, the kuiu axis hybrid hooded jacket, the firstlite uncompaghre, etc, and still feel like I’ve been searching for a good all purpose, mid-late season Montana jacket.

What are your GO-TO’s and why?

I’ve ran the old timberline jacket for years but just bought the current jetstream generation. It is now the the go to, it has pit zips to vent when I’m pushing up the hills, I can put a down vest underneath when it’s cold and windy. If it’s freezing I can put the puffer over top and use the jetstream as a midlayer. My partner runs the SG Dehavalin jacket and he says it’s pretty close to the jetstream in design.

I love my Patagonia nano puff bivy. I wear that thing anywhere and everywhere.

I recently purchase a Columbia rain jacket for a trip to London & Paris in September. I bought the "Splash a Little" and just love it. I live in the PNW and will get good use out of this jacket through the year, along with traveling. It folds up pretty small and has nice lines to it, not as boxy as some rain jackets. I just wore it yesterday while sitting outside with a bit of chill in the air, had a sweater underneath and I was plenty warm. I wore it recently in a downpour and it's waterproof claim held up. The other nice thing about this jacket is that it is a little longer than my other waterproof rain jacket which just goes to my hips. My new jacket will look nicer in the city and my longer tops will be covered. When I read the reviews, people mentioned to size up and I am glad I did. I usually wear a medium, but the large fits well, especially with layers. I ordered through Zappos, so knew I could return if I needed another size. Some reviews stated they got wet wearing it, but many other reviews were pleased with the waterproof quality. Couldn't be more pleased with this purchase. Good luck on your jacket hunting.

I’m a Wisconsin boy, no Montana experience but I have and love the FL Catalyst. I wear it for all sorts of outdoors activities from October to about May here. I’ve cut trees in January with it, turkey hunted in it, tracked countless deer in it. Just a super comfortable jacket to wear for a lot of things. I’ll go from a merino base under it to a base layer, fleece and puffy vest in winter. Love it.

River west original fleece. This has been my jacket for 20’years. 100% wind and waterproof. Removable hood, pit zips, longer shirt tail tall collar. Only downside is it is slightly heavier than I would like. Large enough to have a puffy under it

Their website and advertising is terrible. Good gear but poor business management

I also have and like the Jetstream. I think it would be the perfect jacket if it was waterproof. Not sure why they have the windproof laminate and couldn't also make it waterproof? Is there a similar jacket to the jetstream that is both windproof and waterproof?

That would be nice but if they made it waterproof it would not breath very well and would have to have a goretex shell which would affect it durability. I think the stormfront is similar to that but it not something I would wear all the time just to the fact u could not sneak up on a corpse it’s so loud

I was thinking it was because of the ability to breath. But it would be nice. Kuiu and Sitka make parkas and waterfowl jackets that are waterproof but they are much heavier and probably don't breath as well.

I got a massif element jacket though work, I don't use it hunting only for work which is about the same amount of time outside. That jacket is going on 6.5 years of use and still going strong. I wear it about 8 months a year from 50° to negatives. It's always on and my most cherished piece of work gear . I would compare it to my jetstream which i decently used but still lots of life left in her. The jetstream cuts the wind and the pit zips are a dream while walking. I recently picked up a simms rogue jacket and will be putting that through its paces. It's kind of lighter Weight and we're past the lightweight jacket temp range currently I don't think you'll regret any one you do decide to buy

I can’t give up my soft shells, but I spend a lot of time in a Sitka traverse too.

I really like the Sitka Traverse hoody. Stretches nicely and love the berber fleece inside. Very quiet for bowhunting.

The discontinued Sitka 90% is my favorite.

Personally I haven't found a place for a soft shell. Mid to late season I wear a 200ish weight merino long sleeve half zip, a puffy, and a shell. Those 3 layers cover almost every scenario with the exception of super cold weather I will bring an additional fleece type mid layer.

My Sitka Jetstream gets used more than any other jacket. Cuts the wind well and with the pit zips you can dump heat pretty well. I use it with a base layer in cooler weather and layer up in colder weather.

I've run the heck out of a Gen 1 Uncompahgre. Gen 2 doesn't fit me properly. Waiting for a Kuiu Guide Pro in the mail.
