My first elk was with a Remington Model Seven SS in 7 SAUM, Talley rings, and Leupold VX3 scope. My next one will be taken with a Remington Model Seven SS in 7-08, Talley rings, and a Leupold VX3 scope.
My elk rifle is a Browning A-Bolt .338 Win Mag with a 3-10 Swarovski. I’ve killed quite a few elk with it and love that gun, but I’ve killed more elk with my Ruger M77 stainless in .30-06 with a Leupold VX2 3-9x40. Prior to that I shot a Remington 700 BDL in 7mm REM Mag.
If I ever get another elk rifle it will be a .300 PRC. Either Browning X-Bolt Speed or Christianson Arms. I certainly don’t need it, but want it lol.
My wife has killed her share of elk with her Howa 1500 in 7mm-08. Wicked little round!
Trying to decide between my 25 creedmoor and 22 creedmoor. One is short and light, the other is 10 pounds but easier to shoot at distance. Planned on using my tikka 30-06 last year because elk are “big” but ended up shooting a dinosaur of a cow with the 25 creedmoor last year and she was dead as can be..
The trusty ol’ savage .308. In ‘21 two years ago- got my 1st bull with it! I just love the way it shoots and is very accurate now compared to what it used to be. I’m taking it out again this next weekend for a chance at another bull. Can’t wait! Set up camp today already.
But- I’m like you and occasionally bring out the 7mm mag. I’ve taken many cows with it over the years and is also very accurate.
I use a .300 weatherby that my grandpa purchased back in the early 90’s. Stock cracked on a Wyoming cow hunt in 2019 so had that replaced and upgraded scope to a Viper PST 5-25x50 scope. Hornady 200 gr eldx bullet.
