I'm just looking for the gun and meat in the hunt. Don't need a trophy.

What's the cheapest cow elk hunt you can get that might have potential realistic success.

Thanks

If you pick up a late season cow tag in CO, you could probably find a ranch hunt for 1-2k$.
Or DIY just for the tag cost on public.

Cheapest is your home state. Next cheapest is the closest state to you in the form of draw/otc tags.

$1-$2k for a cow elk hunt? Wow...had no idea it cost that much.
Ranchers in Western Colo aren’t giving anything away anymore. Everything is leased to outfitters during regular seasons. Late season is a cheap (lol) way. If you knew any of them personally, maybe you get a free pass.
Get a late season public land tag, and DIY. Might get lucky with an ez elk. I never have.
This was a January hunt, plenty of elk in the bottoms where the access means a miserable pack out up incredibly steep drainages. Nope.

Oh very cool. Cold actually.
This brings up another question.....
I have a prosthetic left leg.....what will I need to pack out a downed elk?

Highs then were in the 20s. Near Utah border unit, self guided solo. I am in fair shape with 2 good legs and wouldn’t go down there. That area, all the road access is on top mostly.
If you are a veteran I can send you a link to a disabled vet cow hunt. Hmmm, their website isn’t working for me? https://bc40hunts.org/
I tried volunteering with them but they never returned any messages.

You need to do some legwork and find an appropriate hunt. I am probably the worst resource with the worst advice. I would probably hit up a CPW guy who works an area you hope to hunt. They might have an idea about which ranchers are tired of elk in the hayfield.
